Well, actually the joke is making fun of the way certain people explain things to people they think are dumber than them. But don’t you worry your pretty little noggin. We’ll make sure you understand this joke.

I think it’s a play on “well, actually blah blah blah fact maybe” rebuttals.

Hate when I catch myself "Well, actually"ing. I’ll either try to reword it to not sound so dickish or I’ll discard it if I think it’s not actually helpful or interesting.

I think I’ve eliminated the “[well, ]actually” from my speech patterns (unless using it sparingly for comedic effect) due to the memes as well. Turns out the dumb internet image macros can have a positive impact after all.

I train people in a technical field, so I’m used to breaking complex things down to basic sub parts and combining them until they illustrate the concept.

I stopped explaining anything to people outside of work after I had someone ask me how something worked, then called me a mainsplainer after I answered their question.

Now, if someone asks me how something works, I just say I’ll have to look it up and get back to them. Then they usually either look it up themselves or forget about it.

Just omit either “well” or “actually”. Maybe swap both for “surprisingly” or “unfortunately” depending on the context of the correction. I understand the struggle :(
