We didn’t abandon incredible architectures like this because we “advanced” passed them. We abandoned them because nails and bricks got cheap to make and mass produced architecture became the norm

Much like many traditional Japanese architectures, these houses are built with the foresight that parts will break and need to be replaced bit by bit. Many western buildings are instead built to require either complete demolition or occasional, expensive renovations. This is the reason all the oldest standing buildings in the world are built with traditional building methods
