They are probably referring to “Simple Machines”: Lever, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, wheel, screw.

It’s a science class thing, like I think it was that “all complex” mechanical machines are made of those basic components.

Not saying they aren’t still crazy, but that’s probably what they meant.
