Today, I’ve been thinking about how the future may go, both in the United States and abroad.

Over the past decade (or so), I’ve seen an increased popularity of socialism and also support for equality type of projects. As an example, despite the increased segregation policies of queer people, they are largely supported by people around my age (I am now 25 years old).

Meanwhile, the hatred amongst American conservatives for brown people (especially Hispanics) has increased, such as kicking them out of their communities and individuals shooting at people immigrating from Mexico (as they’re around the border).

Needless to say, there is a large-scale movement against us and people friendly towards us, both in America and in foreign countries. There are people that not just want to discriminate and dominate other groups, but want to eliminate them. While these people are not really in the seats of power, things could change, as history has shown.

Obviously, I hope to see the mergence of a world order based around general equality and kindness. I just feel sad knowing that there are (very well-funded) forces that are against that and there are at least parts of them that, if given the appropriate power, could do things that might exceed the past’s atrocities.

I hear you friend, it’s rough out there.

What you can do is take local action in your community to improve things, don’t let discrimination happen within the reach of your arm and voice, don’t let people suffer under your sight.

Take what positive action you can, that’s all you can do. That’s how change is accomplished, you can’t hope to see an overarching system of people in power change things drastically for the better, that’s not how systems of power operate, but you can make a change

History has given me something similar to comfort, context. It’s not to minimize the problems of today, but the mind numbing horrors of the recent past show that humanity is capable of just ridiculous levels of evil. As much as I dislike the current state of things In the US I am not worried about being drafted into a war only to die uselessly like in WWI. I am not concerned about general warfare between the states. So as subpar as our world is right now you could be in a wet dirty trench filled with rats getting fired on with so many shells you go insane. Doesn’t make anyone’s life easier of course. I’m just grading on a curve.
