      It came out of the extra misogynistic early Reddit period. Sad that it made it here.

        I don’t find it misogynistic, really (not saying it isn’t, just that I don’t see it that way). It’s just plain stupid, like it was funny the first time someone did it because it was creative and new and twisted the word in a smart way.

        But in the last week I’ve seen at least 10 different communities with “porn” in the name and neither of them was porn. You’re not being witty, you’re not being funny, you’re just copying something that’s become quite embarrassing precisely because everyone copies it.

          Yah. I don’t think it’s directly misogynistic, but it definitely came from a space that assumed everyone was a 18-28 year old man with a similar sense of “humor”.

          Imagine being a woman (or any non 18-28 year old male) who is trying to migrate away from mega corporate social media. You come to fediverse and see a bunch of off-putting weird content.

          It’s not directly misogynistic but I would argue that it is directly patriarchal.

            You copied a patriarchal thing that was on Reddit as well. Copying does not make a thing ok just because you copied it. People are just saying that these types of community names shouldn’t be a thing. I say they shouldn’t be a thing because they are 1. Off putting 2. Patriarchal in nature and coming from a less inclusive less accepting space. (Ie 2009 era Reddit)

              I’m not suggesting it is/was ok or not, but replying to you saying

              But in the last week I’ve seen at least 10 different communities with “porn” in the name

              So we were not being trying to witty, not trying to be funny. We migrated our community from Reddit and took our name with us. At the time (5 yrs ago) it seemed like a suitable name, as it relates a lot to mapporn.

        @mholiv

        @RimWorldPorn @rikudou

        We were welcomed on the Fediverse when doing our research about where we could migrate from reddit. Nobody seemed bothered about the name. Only after we migrated from Reddit did a few people start about it. We could have changed it had we known. But now it’s too late. What we did do is change our server from RimWorldP**N.cloud to https://rimworld.gallery to no longer make it appear like it could be NSFW (the name, not the site)

          I think it’s because of the demographic of the people you asked. 18-28 men generally won’t care. Fediverse is a wider more diverse space. (Although still dominated by 18-28 year old men)

          And of course everyone is welcome. That’s how the fediverse works. You have to run a REALLY problematic instance to be defederated at any meaningful scale.

          As a person who likes Rimworld I am glad you changed the domain. The old one was just grossly a bad decision.
