Ah yes the enlightened centrist. Israel has been dominating Palestine for ~75 years and have been in a position to end the conflict for ages but decide not to because they’d rather slowly kill Palestine than give their people freedom.

But surely they’re both equally evil, eh?

Hamas is not a political revolution of Palestine. It’s a jihadist group that kills just as many Palestine children as they do Israeli. Palestine deserves so much better. I hate centrism and cynicism, but there is no good outcome to this fight.

Alright yeah Israel is worse, but that isn’t what people are talking about right now. It’s possible to support the Palestinians but not Hamas. Fighting back is fine, but targeting civilians isn’t. If they had just attacked the actual oppressors, the conversation would be completely different.

You could say the exact same thing about Israel. This isn’t a gotcha when Israel has been killing civilians for decades in their apartheid.

Hamas’ terrorism is bad, but it’s also a predictable result of treating Palestinians like subhuman cattle for generations. Israel had the power to prevent situations like this, but they used it to oppress instead.

It’s possible to support the Palestinians but not Hamas.

In sentiment, maybe. In reality? What concrete things can you do to benefit Palestinians that don’t also benefit Hamas? Hamas are Palestinians.

That’s like saying “I support Israel’s right to defend itself, but not to harm innocent Palestinians.” You don’t get to choose. It’s a package deal.

There’s only one way Israel can end the conflict. I don’t think you’re in favor of it.

“Equally evil” is such a weird phrase. Who was more evil, Jeffrey Dahmer or Jim Jones? And I don’t think standing up for evil because the other side is more evil is any better of a stance than enlightened centrism.

As a devil’s advocate, Hamas uses 100% of their capability for evil, even sacrificing their own lives in the name of religion to inflict the maximum damage. Israel doesn’t use 10% of their capacity, and has more justifiable reasons for doing so.

This does not mean I endorse Israel. You’re right in that Israel causes more overall harm.
