Oct 26, 2023 - Theme Thursday: Gunfight at the OK Corral

    • Prep: Klar - Activated Charcoal - Face Soap
    • Brush: Wild West Brushworks Matador 26mm Sweet Spot Badger Knot
    • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE [4]
    • Lather: Noble Otter - Lonestar - Soap
    • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps - History 101 - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts/Shawn Maher - Gravefruit II - Eau de Parfum

I was just thinking the other day that it is a shame I didn’t get a chance to use Lonestar this Summer. Luckily, Lonestar fits the Old West theme today with scent notes like sage, lemon, magnolia, Texas cedar, oakmoss, leather, and hay.

History 101 actually brought the gunfight with Clary sage, leather, gunsmoke, smoke, dirt, tobacco, and sawdust.

In any gunfight, there’s the quick and the dead. Gravefruit tied together the smokey woods, magnolia, and Texas cedar to finish off the shave.

    Rating: 4/5

    • Brush: Maggard 24mm 2 Band Badger
    • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
    • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (4)
    • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Vespers - Soap
    • Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Reserve Fern - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Eufros - Dama Noche - Balm

Omnibus can take a ton of water, but also it doesn’t need it. I spent relatively little time lathering today and it turned out great.

    Twenty-sixth Day of TabOKtoberfest

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
    • Razor: Dovo Shavette (split DE version)
    • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

I’ve had this shavette for a while, bit this is the first time I’m using it. It has a plastic point protruding beyond the corner of the blade. Doubtless meant as a safety feature, it just makes it difficult shave close to the nostrils. Split DE shavettes have no soul. Sad.

    Stank ++;

Split DE shavettes have no soul

After the Weck [and you talked me into that], the only shavette I’ve even considered is the Tedalus Essence, but that’s mostly due to how cool it looks.

the Tedalus Essence, […] due to how cool it looks.

That it does! But injector blades and shavettes aren’t a good match IMO. They have sharp corners, no bueno

The Essence accepts Artist Club blades. That’s all I would use in it. But, I’m concerned it might be a case of form over function with that razor.

AC could be better than injector blades 🤔

I’ve tried the Feather DX a while back, and it was ok. Compared to straights or Wecks, though, the minimum useable angle was less shallow, and less shallow than I liked.

though, the minimum useable angle was less shallow,

A deal breaker for me. Having developed the technique of getting BBS-close with low angles is why (IMO) I rarely nick myself and never have irritation. [Of course many years of strong alcohol aftershaves may have tanned my skin.]

Yeah, we agree. That’s why I’m sceptical about the Tedalus. With the narrow AC and injector blades, this limitation shallow and seems hard to overcome.

Yes, maybe the clamp is thinner than on the Feather, bit images like this one

Make me think that it’s the same design at a higher price

    • Brush: Oumo Compass Bonfire 27mm Emperor-2
    • Razor: Filarmonica 14 Doble Temple Gen 1 (Straight Shave 359)
    • Lather: The Holy Black - Gunpowder Spice - Soap
    • Post Shave: The Holy Black - Gunpowder Spice - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Old Spice with a note of gunpowder. What’s not to love! And then, of course, there’s the Filarmónica 14. It doesn’t get better than this!

    Fili 15; // ;-)

    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade
    • Blade: Kismet (2)
    • Brush: Mühle 23mm STF
    • Lather: Canada Shaving Soap
    • Post: Thayers

My one-pass few-variables shaves continue. Kismet blades are nice, this went better but maybe it was the soap–my Canadian MdC tribute showed up quickly (snagged one of the last two they had at amazon) and wow, the tub was so full it didn’t quite close. Needed to add water as I unexpectedly loaded a sizable amount of soap, I think I expected it to load slower being so hard. Very slick, and very unscented unlike MWF which I find stronger than I expected (though unobjectionable).
