Propane is an absolute badass refrigerant in a car AC system… Works way better, pollutes less… People just have issues with the whole explosion thing.

Isn’t R744 equipment much more expensive? The pressures are higher?
They’re expensive mostly market availability of components is still lacking, but it improves by the day.
Much higher pressures - relief valves up to 1740psi on transcritical systems. It sounds scary, but working on a CO2 system is SO much easier imo.

Well the silver lining here is those phased out refrigerants are increasingly expensive to purchase, since they don’t make it anymore.
Haven’t read the article yet to see if they cover this, but the AIM act just went into affect in the US, which ramps up the phaseout of R-134a and some others. Now we just need to stop DuPont from creating more of those HFOs that are shown to break down into forever chemicals…
