Oliver Tambo, born on this day in 1917, was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.
In 1943, Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, founded the ANC Youth League, with Tambo becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948. The Youth League proposed a change in the tactics of the anti-apartheid movement, advocating boycotts, civil disobedience, strikes, and non-collaboration.
In 1960, Tambo fled South Africa due to political persecution, living in exile in north London for thirty years. From London, he supported and helped organize the ANC in the fight against apartheid from a distance. On December 13th, 1990, Tambo returned to South Africa and was elected National Chairperson of the ANC.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is an extremely direct predecessor to Kill la Kill, both directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi
Promare also fits into this lineage, again a Hiroyuki Imaishi joint
I haven’t seen Cyberpunk Edgerunners but it got a great reception and is also Hiroyuki Imaishi. The Gainax-Trigger lineage has some other highlights sort of in this vein like Gunbuster, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Little Witch Academia, Kiznaiver, Space Patrol Luluco, and Inferno Cop, but the three above are specifically extremely good fits if you liked Kill la Kill.

I second @vertexarray@hexbear.net 's recommendation of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and the rest of the Hiroyuki Imaishi oeuvre.
Also try Gundam. Either start at the beginning with Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (old but it holds up, first show in the longest running Gundam continuity, the Universal Century) or the latest Gundam show, Witch from Mercury (new continuity all to itself, won’t be missing any backstory)
