Bit disappointed to see minimal gains over the M2 Pro, but I’m rocking an Intel 16”, so any M chip would be a massive upgrade, plus the space black looks sexy. Probably just gonna pick one up and try not to pay attention to the M4 next year.

It seems like they’re trying to rejigger the lineup to hit a price point. They want to hit the lower price to help with people buying the platform and corporations buying them for staff. They also don’t want to lose sales to professionals who need power. The M3 Pro to M3 Pro is likely the same speed, but you can guy it at a lower price . That’s a good solution for non-power users.

Is it the same story as with Nvidia 4000 series? Meaning they upped the frequency but reduced bus width.

Why does every generation of M series chip have some slower feature than the previous one? This is so frustrating.

I just want them to “innovate” their way into supporting an actual number of monitors that makes sense.

They do it to „upsell“ you towards M3 Pro. There is no other reason why a powerful chip like M3 should not support 2, 3 or even 4 external displays.

        Facts

(There’s actually a good technical reason as to why this is the case, to an extent, but the answer ultimately comes down to the fact Apple is being cheap)

What’s the technical rationale? Is it related to heat and efficiency?
