With QBs that have retired in the last 5 years, there are some interesting HOF debates that I see coming up. Right now the sure-fire HOF guys are Brady, Brees, and Rodgers when he retires. The next tier, however, is a lot more interesting. You have Matt Ryan, Big Ben, and Rivers who are all very close. What’s interesting is that according to Pro Football Reference’s HOF Monitor, they all have fairly similar scores even though they have different resumes. Ryan has the MVP/All-Pro 1 season which is pretty much required unless you have 2 Super Bowls. Ben doesn’t have a crazy MVP season, but he does have those 2 Super Bowls and 17 good years. Then Rivers has some crazy counting stats. I think that Ryan and Roethlisberger have a slight edge over Rivers but it is very hard to separate the 3. So my question is do we think any of them make it? If they do it opens up the debate for a lot of players in the future. Also, how do we think the HOF committee weighs Rings/MVPS/All-Pro teams? The media is always so focused on the rings but looking at the resumes of HOF QBs there are a lot more without rings than there are without All-Pro seasons.
Edit: Here is the PFR Monitor. The average HOF QB has a score of 108. Ryan has a score of 106, Ben has a score of 100, and Rivers is at 98.
Ben and Eli will both get in based on rings and longevity. I know Eli was never a super dominant regular season QB, but he’s A) a Manning B) responsible for two of the wildest SB wins of all time and C) probably has 2 of the 10 greatest plays in that contest.
I’m obviously biased but I think Eli’s throw to Manningham down the sideline is one of, if not the greatest throw in NFL history

I honestly don’t think Eli gets in. He only won playoff games those two years and wasn’t even close to the best player on either team. He made a few big plays in those super bowls, but he wasn’t the reason that those teams made it to those super bowls, or why they won them.
Otherwise he went one and done 4 times.
And he had some TERRIBLE years, many of which were directly his fault. Without those two SBs, he isn’t even in the conversation.
Eli Manning only made the pro-bowl one more time than he led the league in interceptions.
If he gets in you might as well put guys like Rivers, Matt Ryan, and Stafford in because they are all better than him
I genuinely believe if Eli had beaten any other team for his rings he wouldn’t have a case, but I truly believe you can’t tell the story of football without him
I’ve always thought of Eli as the “line” for qb’s to enter the HoF. Even though he hasn’t entered yet, anyone better than Eli should get in and anyone worse should not. The Eli HoF question was a huge debate for like 3 months after he retired. He is truly on the line.
I disagree. Matt Ryan was a better QB than Eli Manning and he shouldn’t get in.
D) Compared to other Hall of Famers… by far the weakest supporting cast.
The only other HoF teammate played in the other side of the ball. And only for one of the SB.
Meanwhile Aikman struggles to whittle his HoF teammates down to a basketball team size.
