I’ve noticed some people posting about screen mirroring being blocked when connecting to a usb-c enabled monitor, or using AirPlay.
You can bypass this with a USB-c docking station that has an HDMI port. Since the connection is to the dock and not directly to the screen, it simply thinks you are plugging an accessory in and does not block any of the streaming options like it would with a direct connection. I have been watching Netflix shows using this method for the last month since I purchased an Anker docking station on Amazon for $20.
Hope that helps some people out.
I would say it has more to do with cellular carriers not wanting people streaming tv through an actual tv which in essence bypasses the hotspot (which most are limited).
Does anyone here know the problem or have experienced som sort of reduced animation homescreen in the newer ios 17 versions and iphone 14? I feel like sometimes when i scroll down the tab control center it kinda feels a slighty laggy and weird instead of smoothless flow
You can also block hardware acceleration from browser and mirror :)
A hub or dock?
Or get a streaming device?
I wonder what makes this possible. If it’s the lack of HDCP stopping the USB working in the first place, or the fact that you’re connecting a display output via USB which the phone treats differently to if you were connecting a display to the phone. Like; if the HDMI output then appears to the OS as a HDCP compatible HDMI output because the iPhone doesn’t have one of those itself.
That’s actually quite cool. And useful to know.
Oh really? Badass cause I have an anker docking station I bought for my MacBook Air that I just learned I can use for my iPhone :).
I wonder if there’s a lightning based docking station. I’m assuming I’ll need a lightning to usb-c adapter/cable to go to the docking station if not…
I found out about this block right before departing on a several hour journey with a 2 and 4 year old. I was pretty livid that I pay for my phone and streaming service only to be blocked.
Will this work https://amzn.eu/d/fcE9OOm
👀👀
Give ma an example of a docking station please.
Link the accessory please
You can use pretty much any 3rd party USB-C dock with HDMI out. I have done this for a while with my iPad Air 4 and a generic USB-C dock I bought a few years ago made for a non-Apple device.
I didn’t know people were having this issue. I’ve been using my USB c hub that I bought for my mbp with my iPhone with no issues since I got it.
This has always worked IF the whole chain (device, hub, HDMI cable, and TV) support encryption.
