I have just done the last update on my watch and while I was at first very excited about the new feature measuring how much time one has spent in daylight, I quickly realize that as winter approaches, I will be wearing jackets with the sleeves covering my wrists and thus my watch.

What do you people plan to do about this? Just not care and cover the watch or will you keep it exposed to the sun (and the cold)?

If your watch is on the last OS, you can see your time spent in daylight in the health app, under the mental wellbeing section.

Ha Ha well my watch seems to think I’m a vampire as yesterday I had zero daylight, I was actually out of the house for a couple of hours. And last week I had a average of 38 mins with zero for tuesday, thursday and sunday. I don’t think it’s all that accurate.

I’ve been wearing long sleeves for a while now (I live in Sweden, it’s been minus-temperatures for a while), and I think it’s working quite well. The average amount of reported minutes in the sun has gone down quite quickly last month, but that can be explained by the fact that the amount of sun hours has gone down drastically as well. Especially during the hours I’m usually outside (to and from work).

Either way, I exclusively wear long sleeves at the moment. And I haven’t noticed any inaccuracies. Haven’t really spend too much time trying to work out if it’s accurate though.

Ok thanks for your reply! I might do some tests with long sleeves to see what it tells me.

If the watch is covered up enough that the ambient sensor doesn’t register the daylight, how much daylight are you getting?

😆 Yeah, in Canada here, during fall/winter I have sleeves covering my wrists even indoors.

Thank you! I guess I should’ve directed this to the folk who say they wear the their Apple Watch on top of their jacket cuffs

It’s fine for me, I have a hairband on the middle of the cuff of my sleeve and then it’s the cuff is folded back (so it looks like it’s halved)

I don’t understand the question. Just wear it as a watch? I’ve had a series 4 on my wrist 23 hours per day for 5 years.

I couldn’t care less about how much time Apple thinks I spend in daylight. I know, that’s all that matters.

Easy solution, I don’t need a watch to tell me how much time I have spent outside 😂 I am outside as much as I can/want/need.

Another useless feature is the handwashing detection and timer. I turned that shit off right away.

Sure, I was doing fine going outside before the update and I still will, but now they claim they can give me this info and I want to know how accurate it can be, that’s all.
