I have the Apple Watch Ultra. I currently don’t use it in water at all. I will occasionally turn on the water mode thing in the task bar if I have to walk into the store etc and it is raining bad. My mom has mobility issues and wants to start walking in a pool a few times a week, I said I would go with her. Can I turn on the water mode thing in the task bar and have my arm/wrist under the water the whole time while we walk to track my heart rate etc (I have POTS, I have to keep track of it) without it ruining my watch. I am scared of ruining the watch. It is the most expensive thing I own and I am still paying it off in monthly payments. Is this really water proof? Like walking in a pool for an hour while my wrist is under water the whole time? Thanks in advance for calming my fears, lol.
Have a look at Apple’s support article: About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support (CA). It should help reassure you.
AppleCare+ covers water damage. The standard warranty does not. Perhaps base your decision on what coverage you have.
Good point
I swim like 3/4 days a week and wanted to use my watch to track the swimming - I was scared to just brick my $800 watch so I got the apple care plus - I got it in the store after 11 months of use
I swam every day for a year with my Ultra. I went scuba diving multiple times, including going past 100’. I swam from Alcatraz twice and have done Ironmans in the rain with it. I’ve been to water parks and pretty much every water sport including jet skiing, water skiing, and surfing.
I really wouldn’t worry about it unless you’ve done some serious impact damage to it. I damaged mine in bike crash and traded it in for an Ultra 2, but even with the damage, I was still heavily swimming with it with no issues.
As someone else pointed out, the water lock only keeps the screen from accidental touch input and then ejects water from the speaker afterwards.
Thank you for commenting, your experience helps a lot, I am not worried about it now.
I swim with the watch for training. 0 issues.
Why did you even get an Ultra without knowing this? The ads literally show divers using it.
I know what the commercials say, I am just a paranoid schizophrenic and I have issues trusting what the companies say. I would rather take the word of people who have used the watch and tell me yes, it works great in the water, no issues, or no don’t do it, I have had issues with it being water proof.
Ah yes. Forgot Apple lies in their marketing. Classic Apple showing divers suing it when it’s not water resistant. These watches aren’t water proof. They are water resistant
