After two and a half years since the 13.0 branch was published, the FreeBSD 14.0 release (https://www.freebsd.org/releases/14.0R/announce/) has been formed. FreeBSD 14 will be the last FreeBSD branch to support 32-bit platforms.
- A new base64 utility for encoding and decoding data in base64 format has been added.
- The default command prompt for the root user is /bin/sh.
- Added tcpsso utility to allow socket options to be set for existing TCP connections.
- The number of supported CPU cores (MAXCPU parameter) in systems based on amd64 and arm64 architecture was increased from 256 to 1024.
- The timerfd subsystem was added to the kernel to simplify porting programs from Linux.
