Rumours have it that there’s a new Apple TV 4K coming in the first half of next year. Would it be worth waiting for it or buying now?

buy a used one for now and see if you like it enough to pay full price for the new one when it comes out.

I’m seeing plenty of current gen for under $50 on marketplace.

I was having the conversation with some other dad’s at a party yesterday on the 4K. The jump in price that undertook is the thing that harms the product.

Different rumours are going around but this needs to have a drop in price and if they offered a 2k only version as well that was even cheaper… The latter would sell more.
The old $99 Apple TV was appealing.

If you plan to game on it I’d wait or buy now and sell when the new one comes out. If you just stream then buy now.

I have the latest ATV and my son and I play Lego Brawls together. When we play for about 30-40 minutes straight it starts to overheat and has lag spikes. Not terrible but enough that if you play games I’d keep getting the latest and greatest. They are only like $100 on sale and you can move old ones to different tvs.

Do you need an Apple TV now or when a new one is announced? That’s the question. I’d just buy now and use the new one in another room if you find value in the next model.

This. When I first got it I was like…nice…but whatever. 1 year later, I love it. My wishlist is petty. Maybe backlit. A couple user defined preprogrammed buttons…maybe. I love it, especially after the last O/S update

I wish they’d move the volume buttons to where the Siri button is. And a USB port for watching off of an external drive would be nice. Neither of those will happen, so I’m just enjoying it as is. I never understood why people bought these over the other options, especially considering the price, but after having one for a few months now I totally get it.

There are no legit rumors about a new model. The current model is better than ANY streamer on the market. Buy one and you’ll never regret it. Wait for rumors and you’ll be waiting forever.

There will always be a new one. If you want to stay on the latest just sell your current one when the new one is released you’ll get a good chunk of it back.

As others have said: if you need one now get one now.

    It’s mid product cycle, probably

    https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Apple_TV

    “Neutral” to buy now.

But say you get one now, about $130 for the wireless only model:

$130 / 12 is about eleven bucks a month if you keep it for a year—at which point you could sell it, maybe $50?

Not that much compared to monthly subscriptions for Netflix, Disney, Hulu, HBO which has the dumb name Max now, etc

It’s a pleasure to use, and stein, compared to the cost of subscriptions it’s worth it I think.

    Always consult MacRumors Buyer’s Guides

    Currently “Neutral; Mid Product Cycle”

The third-generation Apple TV 4K was introduced in October 2022 and is equipped with an A15 Bionic chip for improved performance and HDR10+ support for the best possible video quality, while the Siri Remote now charges via USB-C. I’ve had the 1st, 2nd, and third gen ATV 4k and if you put it side by side I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference besides the remote.

I would see it more on the content side of things. Is there anything you like to access now that the Apple TV offers? Then yeah it’s worth it. Also check if your TV has Apple TV already.
