A lot of room for improvement on Siri. I look at what ChatGPT can do, and have my complaints even with that, but I expect Apple compete in the AI space in the near future.

Why would you want a phone with less ram, a screen with less resolution and less refresh rate, no s-pen, worse charging speed, and on top of that a worse and less optimized operative system??? If that’s what you want then buy some Xiaomi mid tier smartphone.

You know the only reason for the iPhone to exist is iOS and the Apple ecosystem, right?

Imo the 15 Pro Max’s cameras, build, flat display, action button, and battery are all better

I’d say a mix of the S23 Ultra and 15 Pro Max hardware with the Pixel’s UI and camera processing tech, and iOS/iPhone’s app optimization would be peak

One day, phones will project things in the air like holograms. Interactions will be more fluid-like. Apple Vision Pro is a sneak peak at the technology we will one day have in our pockets.

I think it’ll be optional though, I think there will always be people who proclaim that “2D phone screens were better!” but the vast majority of people will enjoy the Star Wars tech.

The big difference between Samsung and Google when it comes to the fold is thier focus. The pixels fold has a great front screen that just happens to be on a folding phone lol. The inner screen has no advantage outside of being bigger.

Samsung has always made its focus the big folding display. All of their refinement is based on improving the experience on the big screen. The front screen was never meant to be the main display of the phone. I appreciate that a lot, it kind of makes use the big display and all its glory.

One of the reasons I actually canceled my pixel fold order was because of the front display. Why do I want to pay 1800 for a phone I will rarely open lol.

See I think a lot of that just depends on what you want to do on the phone; the main advantage of the big screen for me would be content consumption, and the Pixel’s inner display works much better for that than the Galaxy, plus it comes with the upside of the outer screen being much nicer too.

Obviously if you’re using it for split screen or general social media, normal phone things basically then the Galaxy is better. Just different use cases.

I disagree. The under-screen fingerprint sensor and built in pen would take up a bunch of internal room that most people would rather use for battery. Fingerprint sensors are generally worse than FaceID anyhow.

Smaller cutout and fast charging are def true though.

My 15 pro max is my 4th iPhone with faceID, and I still miss a fingerprint sensor very very often. FaceID is fantastic for the moments where it works, but there are enough moments where it just does not cut it.

The problem is that one of those moments where it simply doesn’t work for me is straight up dangerous: having to unlock to enable carplay, while I’m in my car behind the wheel. Just picking up my phone in that situation is illegal where I live, but no, I need to hold it in front of my face before it wants to unlock.

That’s probably the worst situation, but just having my phone on my desk, wanting to glance quickly at new notifications never works. Sometimes, on the lock-screen it doesn’t unlock to view the notifications unless I swipe up. And if I by accident swipe up from a bit too low down on the screen, it unlocks completely instead of showing me my notification previews.

What about when your finger is wet or you’re wearing hand gloves? You can either unlock your phone without looking, or without touching, no phone focuses on both options

“Show previews always” can be set up

I am very aware of that, and that’s something I specifically do not want unless I unlock my phone.

What about when your finger is wet or you’re wearing hand gloves?

Touch screens with gloves is a pain anyway, even with those “touch ready”-ones. And how many times do you wear gloves? I get annoyed by faceID almost daily, I don’t wear gloves daily. Is touch-id perfect? Absolutely not, but did I prefer the user experience? Without a doubt.

That said, I like the screen real-estate we gained, but as android phones have shown, in-screen fingerprint sensors are possible. I don’t know how secure they are though, and with the One+7T I have here, not having tactile indication of where it is, takes some getting used to.

I do the exact same things - often with the exact same apps - as I did 15 years ago.

Google, eBay, PayPal, Amazon, Pandora, Associated Press, Box, Shazam, Kindle, Chase Bank, Flickr, Twitter, IMDB, 1Password, are all apps that I downloaded in 2009. If you add in the apps from 2010, that would cover 90% of what I do today.

Changes have been pretty minor overall and I don’t expect that to change.

iPhone is a nice piece of hardware, but the OS has lots of room for improvement.

    1. Better robocall blocking
    2. Call screening similar to visual voicemail
    3. Better voice assistant
    4. Wait for me on hold feature that listens for a person
    5. Visual phone trees so you don’t have to listen to phone tree systems on customer service calls.
    6. RCS for better cross platform communication
    7. A better notification system with built in interaction systems.
    8. Better app icon movement experience and the ability to put app icons anywhere.
    9. Default map app choice similar to browser and email
    10. Universal back gesture that works everywhere consistently

1.) It already silences calls from spammers 2.) what are you asking for 3.) I agree, Siri is lacking in many places 4.) what 5.) what is a phone tree 6.) maybe, but I’d hope RCS enabled devices work with Apple on a universal end to end encryption (that’s not owned by google) 7.) how would you improve the current system 8.) I could take it or leave it, I put everything on one screen for the most part anyways 9.) you can already set a default maps app, and have been able to for a while now (iOS 15?) 10.) back like going back a page? Swipe right from the left edge of the screen

I miss how my Samsung would show all the values I’m adding or subtracting and also show the answer before I hit “=“, whereas in the iPhone calculator as soon as you enter the next number you can’t see the previous ones. Really helps when you’re adding a long list of numbers and don’t have to keep a mental note on where you are in the list at all times

Which is dumb because it should be an OS level gesture. Android has a swipe from the edge of any screen and it recognizes it as back. I would love to have an iPhone but the 14 Pro I had earlier this year just baffled me on how to go back a page sometimes and the dynamic island needs to open a quick response on messaging apps. And I just hate faceid. Other than that, better battery life is important. I currently have a zfold 4 and it’s absurdly expensive but other than it’s mediocre 7 hour screen on time, it’s just so much easier to use.

You’re kind of right but I mean where the back button is more so then what it does. I’ve used iOS apps where the back button is top left of the screen, I’ve used them where bottom left is, very rarely I’ve seen it in the top right. Android, it’s baked into the OS. If I try to go back, I just do the back gesture and I go back. Doesn’t have to be on a specific part of the screen.

It’s not “baked into the OS”, though. It still has to be implemented by the developer of the app. Apple could enforce stricter approval rules, but there is nothing they can change at the OS level that would make it just work.

#20. There is an option in settings for Siri to announce notifications when wearing headphones only.

I’ve been playing with the new voice ChatGPT and thinking about how amazing an AI assistant that was fully ingrained in the hardware could be. Siri has that access but no where near the ability of ChatGPT.

If I could just ask Siri to write an email to my kids school saying that my daughter won’t be in on Friday, or take all the photos from the Christmas concert and put them in our family group chat that would be amazing.

I’m a software developer. %100 at the moment Apple is cooking that ChatGPT-style Siri in-house. And better yet, it’ll almost certainly run locally, with all the Neural Engine cores it is putting in every product.

I envision a future where the phone assistant has a personality and gets to know me over the years. It learns my preferences, how I want to receive information, can chat with me casually if I’m bored, will really become an extension of myself. I already use my phone hours and hours a day, it’s time it got smart and interacted back.

ChatGPT now has a built in shortcut you can select for the Action Button which takes you directly to their chat bot.

I know I’m gonna be in the minority here but I don’t think the newer models have really had much to offer to the point I want a new device. What has come out has just been a bit stale for me.

Listen when you’re selling a phone and the main point you’re selling me is the fact that the exterior is titanium and you’re not telling me anything other than that I think it’s time to look deeply at what you are buying.

Since when has titanium made a phone better?

It’s made the phone a bit smaller for the given screen size which is a good thing 🤷🏿‍♂️

There’s basically no difference between the 14 and 15 models aside from the USB-C port.

Apple Vision Pro will probably be the next best thing once they can make it into a pair of glasses instead of helmet
