Besides camera quality and battery life
A lot of room for improvement on Siri. I look at what ChatGPT can do, and have my complaints even with that, but I expect Apple compete in the AI space in the near future.
The best iPhone would be an S23 ultra with iOS, or at least with FlymeOS form Meizu.
Lol, most people would prefer iPhone hardware with Android I think.
Why would you want a phone with less ram, a screen with less resolution and less refresh rate, no s-pen, worse charging speed, and on top of that a worse and less optimized operative system??? If that’s what you want then buy some Xiaomi mid tier smartphone.
You know the only reason for the iPhone to exist is iOS and the Apple ecosystem, right?
Imo the 15 Pro Max’s cameras, build, flat display, action button, and battery are all better
I’d say a mix of the S23 Ultra and 15 Pro Max hardware with the Pixel’s UI and camera processing tech, and iOS/iPhone’s app optimization would be peak
One day, phones will project things in the air like holograms. Interactions will be more fluid-like. Apple Vision Pro is a sneak peak at the technology we will one day have in our pockets.
I think it’ll be optional though, I think there will always be people who proclaim that “2D phone screens were better!” but the vast majority of people will enjoy the Star Wars tech.
I sure do love this sub’s unwavering commitment to: ‘I have imagined it, therefore it is possible’
Imagination is the beginning of creation.
Nothing will ever project things in the air, sorry man.
Have you never heard of AR glasses?
A clear glass phone would be cool, not sure if we’ll ever get to that level of tech tho
Before we project things into the air, I’d like to see a projector built into iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. Also, it would be nice to have speakers that can fill a room with sound.
I personally miss the home button
I would love a folding iPhone. I really like my fold 5 but my 13 pro is still my daily use phone. I think once rcs supports hits, I may fully switch over to android.
I want a folding iPhone with the Pixel Fold’s aspect ratios
The big difference between Samsung and Google when it comes to the fold is thier focus. The pixels fold has a great front screen that just happens to be on a folding phone lol. The inner screen has no advantage outside of being bigger.
Samsung has always made its focus the big folding display. All of their refinement is based on improving the experience on the big screen. The front screen was never meant to be the main display of the phone. I appreciate that a lot, it kind of makes use the big display and all its glory.
One of the reasons I actually canceled my pixel fold order was because of the front display. Why do I want to pay 1800 for a phone I will rarely open lol.
See I think a lot of that just depends on what you want to do on the phone; the main advantage of the big screen for me would be content consumption, and the Pixel’s inner display works much better for that than the Galaxy, plus it comes with the upside of the outer screen being much nicer too.
Obviously if you’re using it for split screen or general social media, normal phone things basically then the Galaxy is better. Just different use cases.
My short list is battery life, RCS, and Nokia 3300 level durability.
Def not Nokia 3300 level yet, but durability has improved a ton. I started using my phone caseless in September of last year, and my phones have survived many hard drops with almost no damage (and no cracks)
Try dropping it on its back from 4 feet
I have, from higher than 4 feet. (Accidentally)
The back cracks easily
This is bullshit. Yes, technically, the 15 Pro Max is marginally less durable on the back than the 14 Pro Max, but I’ve dropped mine several times with no issues. The only time I’ve ever heard the back glass is a problem is when people intentionally break it.
You dropped it several times? That’s cute. Update me in 7-8 months I guaranteed it’ll be cracked by then.
RCS is coming
Yup! Super excited for it.
Split screen multitasking please and allow me to move my icons where I want.
Yeah, especially for the larger Max model. There’s no reason why a phone that big doesn’t have split screen multitasking.
They’re going to reserve whichever form of multitasking for their ‘Ultra’ device I’m sure.
Every year I hope split screen multitasking is introduced in the new iOS and every year I’m disappointed.
You and I are the same.
My condolences
T9 dialling, side loading apps, actual RAW output from cameras with native camera app, i.e. no AI massaging. 120hz on base models.
Please bring high refresh rate to the iPhone 16 please
Rumor says it will be 60Hz
In screen finger print, built in magic pencil, even smaller notch, super fast charging
Pretty much everything the s23 does already.
Pretty much everything the s23 does already.
Oh man, this phone is out of my budget. Otherwise it seems like a perfect phone.
I disagree. The under-screen fingerprint sensor and built in pen would take up a bunch of internal room that most people would rather use for battery. Fingerprint sensors are generally worse than FaceID anyhow.
Smaller cutout and fast charging are def true though.
My 15 pro max is my 4th iPhone with faceID, and I still miss a fingerprint sensor very very often. FaceID is fantastic for the moments where it works, but there are enough moments where it just does not cut it.
The problem is that one of those moments where it simply doesn’t work for me is straight up dangerous: having to unlock to enable carplay, while I’m in my car behind the wheel. Just picking up my phone in that situation is illegal where I live, but no, I need to hold it in front of my face before it wants to unlock.
That’s probably the worst situation, but just having my phone on my desk, wanting to glance quickly at new notifications never works. Sometimes, on the lock-screen it doesn’t unlock to view the notifications unless I swipe up. And if I by accident swipe up from a bit too low down on the screen, it unlocks completely instead of showing me my notification previews.
“Show previews always” can be set up
What about when your finger is wet or you’re wearing hand gloves? You can either unlock your phone without looking, or without touching, no phone focuses on both options
“Show previews always” can be set up
I am very aware of that, and that’s something I specifically do not want unless I unlock my phone.
What about when your finger is wet or you’re wearing hand gloves?
Touch screens with gloves is a pain anyway, even with those “touch ready”-ones. And how many times do you wear gloves? I get annoyed by faceID almost daily, I don’t wear gloves daily. Is touch-id perfect? Absolutely not, but did I prefer the user experience? Without a doubt.
That said, I like the screen real-estate we gained, but as android phones have shown, in-screen fingerprint sensors are possible. I don’t know how secure they are though, and with the One+7T I have here, not having tactile indication of where it is, takes some getting used to.
Fingerprint sensors are generally worse than FaceID anyhow.
How would you know lol. The physical home button touch ID isn’t the same as an in display finger print scanner.
Because I’ve had both before.
Where the split screen apps at tho 😩
Over on larger devices where it belongs
I think a 6.5 inch 15 pro max display is big enough.
Just swipe between two open apps?
Nah. Under display camera and face id is the right way, notch is a bad design choice to aim for.
I do the exact same things - often with the exact same apps - as I did 15 years ago.
Google, eBay, PayPal, Amazon, Pandora, Associated Press, Box, Shazam, Kindle, Chase Bank, Flickr, Twitter, IMDB, 1Password, are all apps that I downloaded in 2009. If you add in the apps from 2010, that would cover 90% of what I do today.
Changes have been pretty minor overall and I don’t expect that to change.
Most u can do is remove the notch completey but yeah that’s abt it
iPhone is a nice piece of hardware, but the OS has lots of room for improvement.
- Better robocall blocking
- Call screening similar to visual voicemail
- Better voice assistant
- Wait for me on hold feature that listens for a person
- Visual phone trees so you don’t have to listen to phone tree systems on customer service calls.
- RCS for better cross platform communication
- A better notification system with built in interaction systems.
- Better app icon movement experience and the ability to put app icons anywhere.
- Default map app choice similar to browser and email
- Universal back gesture that works everywhere consistently
You just described everything I miss about using Pixel phones. Apple adding those things would be a game changer for my experience.
So run android?
1.) It already silences calls from spammers 2.) what are you asking for 3.) I agree, Siri is lacking in many places 4.) what 5.) what is a phone tree 6.) maybe, but I’d hope RCS enabled devices work with Apple on a universal end to end encryption (that’s not owned by google) 7.) how would you improve the current system 8.) I could take it or leave it, I put everything on one screen for the most part anyways 9.) you can already set a default maps app, and have been able to for a while now (iOS 15?) 10.) back like going back a page? Swipe right from the left edge of the screen
3 is the big one for me. With the amount of talent and resources at Apple, the current state of Siri should be a searing embarrassment.
This is all software. I believe OP is referring to hardware
9 will never happen.
Ability to google search an incoming unrecognized number while it’s ringing.
RCS is getting added next year already
Better phone and calculator apps, coming from android the these built in apps not being as good was really unexpected from Apple
What’s the difference with the calculator app?
I miss how my Samsung would show all the values I’m adding or subtracting and also show the answer before I hit “=“, whereas in the iPhone calculator as soon as you enter the next number you can’t see the previous ones. Really helps when you’re adding a long list of numbers and don’t have to keep a mental note on where you are in the list at all times
Back gesture what
Swipe back from edge.of the screen to go back. Everywhere. In every app, to close modals and even to close apps if back takes you home.
What I also love to see is that you can mark a missed phone call as unseen. Sometimes i’m coming out of a meeting and missed several calls but i have to call someone back and because of that the notification disappears and i forget to call the missed calls back…
5 would be extremely nice but IMO those options purposely bury the ‘talk to human’ to the underworld, which a lot of people calling customer care are looking for. If it were visual, I feel most people will just use that (I know I would). Happy to be proven wrong here.
10 would be impossible, it’s still up to developers to implement what the gesture does / where it takes you.
Which is dumb because it should be an OS level gesture. Android has a swipe from the edge of any screen and it recognizes it as back. I would love to have an iPhone but the 14 Pro I had earlier this year just baffled me on how to go back a page sometimes and the dynamic island needs to open a quick response on messaging apps. And I just hate faceid. Other than that, better battery life is important. I currently have a zfold 4 and it’s absurdly expensive but other than it’s mediocre 7 hour screen on time, it’s just so much easier to use.
Just from an RSI point of view, Android does gesture-back much better than Apple.
On Android it’s still up to the developers to implement where the back gesture takes you, just like it already is on iOS.
You’re kind of right but I mean where the back button is more so then what it does. I’ve used iOS apps where the back button is top left of the screen, I’ve used them where bottom left is, very rarely I’ve seen it in the top right. Android, it’s baked into the OS. If I try to go back, I just do the back gesture and I go back. Doesn’t have to be on a specific part of the screen.
It’s not “baked into the OS”, though. It still has to be implemented by the developer of the app. Apple could enforce stricter approval rules, but there is nothing they can change at the OS level that would make it just work.
Text message management still sucks, especially junk text messages. If you have a DOT number the phone you have tied to that number which is required by law gets spammed with texts and calls so bad that the phone is unusable, it just sits on a desk.
Idk these sound like minor inconveniences to me
So basically just copy all the Pixel’s features.
Wouldn’t 1 depend on the carrier to actually mark the call as robo? And since they often use random number generators now, it’s even harder to do. I get calls from Iran and it’s Chinese saying I have a package at the embassy.
5 would need the caller to provide the tree or a database maintained and updated by the carrier no?
You could build 5 by analyzing calls on-device and sharing that information with apple. It might be difficult to make sure personal information does not get included in the shared data though.
a better file system, whats the point being able to record video to a extenal HD if you manage and copy between internal and SSD with easy.
So everything that android and pixels have achieved. Now, the pixels need to do what the iPhone does in other areas.
3 and 8 are actually mind blowing to me. Like I’ll give Siri some benefit of doubt but how are you a multi trillion dollar company and still miles behind everyone else. This isn’t just iPhone but also the HomePod. The functionality is impressive… if it were 2011.
As for moving the apps. It is an unholy nightmare, especially with widgets now.
I agree with 1-3, and #8. #10. I just tried this. Swipe from left edge to center works in a lot of apps; News, Music, Safari, Notes, Reminders, Mail, Messages, Phone, Settings, Reddit.
Apple needs to adopt all the pixel calling features. I miss them so much.
Yup me too.
Apple needs to adopt a lot of stuff. A starting point can be Samsung GoodLock.
The calling features, particularly call screening, is what has kept me on Pixels for so long but I’ve reached a point where I can no longer ignore the rest of the failures/problems with Pixels/Android. Pretty well hae made up my mind to switch to iPhone because Pixels have turned to crap since Google switched to Tensor.
Might aswell get an Android at that point lol, I miss my old S21
- 120hz display and USB 3.0 on base models
- App sideloading support
- Call recording
- Ability to hide and lock apps using FaceID
- Better typing experience
- Better mobile data/wifi usage tracking (showing per day stats)
- I still can’t believe rearranging apps is awful and unchanged after all these years.
Bro you are literally describing a pixel.
how are 6 8 and 10 not in ios already?
I’d like the default map, music and notes apps to be able to be changed to alternatives
I’d settle for an Android-like notification system, and call screening.
The hell is call screening
Most on your list Android already has and does very well. In addition, A full time numbers row on the keyboard. Different individual notification volume controls for calls, texts, alarms, etc. RCS is coming.
Cool thing about my reply. Very few people realized pixel does all this. Made an impression, which is never a bad thing.
Agreed. I’ve had the P2, P4, P6 Pro, and P7 Pro. This 15 Pro Max is definitely lacking.
- Something meaningfully useful happening when you plug the into a usb-c dock, which uses all of the on paper horsepower of the chipsets touted year after year that are mostly wasted on the average user.
That’s going to require a cpu that’s 10 years from now if they want to keep the highest performance year after year
-
Better UI scaling that allows for more information density so you don’t feel like you’re using one of those TV remotes made for old people
-
More options for selecting default apps
-
Faster charging
-
Side loading apps
-
Allow me to put my icons wherever I want.
-
More homescreen customization options
-
A more usable and feature rich file manager
-
Split screen multi-tasking
-
Better camera zoom
-
More detailed options in camera app
-
So basically a pixel phone lmao
You just named the pixel with all these lol. Loving my P8P except for battery life.
So basically a pixel 8?
-
Sideloading MacOS style
-
The ability to change app icons without shortcuts
13.the ability to change the Notification dot from red to another colour
14.Split View
15.more free background activity (be able to download a movie from telegram or Netflix while the app is in background )
- Close all app button
Coming from android after a decade, I was shocked 15 wasn’t a thing.
Also
17: T9 dialing 18: under-screen Touch ID
#20. There is an option in settings for Siri to announce notifications when wearing headphones only.
PLEASE #19 LDAC SUPPORT AT LEAST OH MY GOD, HOW DO YOU SELL A LOSSLESS STREAMING SERVICE WHEN THE MOST POPULAR HEADPHONES THAT YOU ALSO MAKE CAN’T SUPPORT IT???
A possibility to paste the numbers in the clipboard to call.
-
Get a Pixel
I’ve been playing with the new voice ChatGPT and thinking about how amazing an AI assistant that was fully ingrained in the hardware could be. Siri has that access but no where near the ability of ChatGPT.
If I could just ask Siri to write an email to my kids school saying that my daughter won’t be in on Friday, or take all the photos from the Christmas concert and put them in our family group chat that would be amazing.
I’m a software developer. %100 at the moment Apple is cooking that ChatGPT-style Siri in-house. And better yet, it’ll almost certainly run locally, with all the Neural Engine cores it is putting in every product.
I envision a future where the phone assistant has a personality and gets to know me over the years. It learns my preferences, how I want to receive information, can chat with me casually if I’m bored, will really become an extension of myself. I already use my phone hours and hours a day, it’s time it got smart and interacted back.
ChatGPT now has a built in shortcut you can select for the Action Button which takes you directly to their chat bot.
I know I’m gonna be in the minority here but I don’t think the newer models have really had much to offer to the point I want a new device. What has come out has just been a bit stale for me.
Listen when you’re selling a phone and the main point you’re selling me is the fact that the exterior is titanium and you’re not telling me anything other than that I think it’s time to look deeply at what you are buying.
Since when has titanium made a phone better?
It’s made the phone a bit smaller for the given screen size which is a good thing 🤷🏿♂️
There’s basically no difference between the 14 and 15 models aside from the USB-C port.
Apple Vision Pro will probably be the next best thing once they can make it into a pair of glasses instead of helmet
Narrator: no it won’t be the next best Thing
