Can you please make tablet mode so that if I click a thread or whatever it’s called that it opens on one side but I can still scroll the timeline on the other side?

Settings > general > 2 column mode
that’s not the same thing, all it does is display posts in two columns.
Ah, my bad. I was under the impression that it was meant to be a tablet mode.
the setting is called tablet mode, but it’s definitely lacking.
