I think we acknowledge how diverse the South park fanbase is in question of age, and I notice how the younger fans of the show (me included) detest Tegridy Randy while the older fans seem to like and relate to him and his attitude.
Me personally, I dislike him and I’m a younger fan with asshole parents lol. I want to hear all opinions of all age groups.
Mid 30s ,Ive watched since season 1 premiered and the tegridy stuff was good enough. I loved it at first but it went on longer than I expected. Still didn’t hate it. A good tegridy ep would come up enough to overcome the stagnation feeling. No regrets but at this point Id like the show to move on from it.
Tergridy farms isn’t funny to me and I’ve watched South Park from the beginning. Never saw or understood the humor connection
Love him. I think young fans don’t like him because he reflects something uncomfortable for them. Maybe it’s the cosplaying farmer cum rank capitalist he embodies or perhaps it’s his narcissism that hits to close to home.
I like all the Randy versions, just like other versions a little more than the rest.
I’m not super opinionated on South Park. Mostly just here for the ride.
Same. I love the show and if there’s an episode I don’t like, I don’t watch it. Tegrity weed really seems to get on peoples nerves for some reason. I love it. I can relate to it.
I think Tegridy is just another one of Randy’s dumb adventures.
- Been a fan from day 1. Hate Tegrity Randy and I love weed.
However I LOVE Randy up until Tegrity tho. Top 2 fave characters.
honestly being a 13 year old, Randy is like my 1000% favorite character. Others like towelie and Cartman come close, but randy is just #1
I think ppl who 'like’ randy is more of a ‘like’ him as a funny character. not 'like’ as in ‘relate to’ or ‘idoloze’
same with cartman or Mr garrison or all the other stupid assholes in the show.
a funny character that makes you laugh and that’s enough.
I turn 30 in one week. I hate him. I would think older fans would prefer old Randy.
I’ve been around since Jesus Vs Santa and I absolutely love Randy’s character arc. He’s had sooooo many great episodes and is responsible for lots of great gags.
Yes, the Tegrity storyline has probably gone on for too long, but I still love him because he’s so gd unpredictable.
I mean we’re 26 seasons in and are still getting some quality laughs. Not many shows can say the same. Randy is a big part of that equation.
I like most of the characters as characters but I know Id despise them in real life, randy included.
Just focusing on the Tegridy Farms thing: I think it resonated with fans (like me) who are older millennials and have been fans of the show since the beginning when we were in middle school. We’re prematurely world-weary and the idea of just going “fuck it, weed farm” was funny, even at the expense of Randy’s (and the show’s) traditional angles. That being said, I think it wore out its welcome for everyone which is why they’ve dialed it back, but I think it’s still a way for Matt and Trey to get some distance from their own formula.
- Watched SP since the premiere in 1997 (I think). Loooooove Randy. But agree with many that pre Tegridy Randy was a bit better.
I’m in my 40’s and definitely relate to Randy. He’s a self centered asshole who cares more about his own happiness than his family but I would definitely be the same if I had kids as well.
Thank God you don’t then.
I never got the impression that we’re supposed to like him. I think older fans might appreciate the satire of the man-child alcoholic/pot addict whose whole life revolves around getting intoxicated to the point that it’s obviously hurting his family, but can remain in denial about it because it’s legal now and he isn’t poor. Teenagers don’t really care about that specific behavior but once you get to be 30 or 40 you start seeing it and its consequences everywhere.
I love Randy before Tegridy, after Tegridy and till the end of time, and while not one of the older fans, I have been there a while, seeing Season 4 in about 2010
