I have searched and searched (please don’t make fun of my possible lack of Google skill), but I have not found a cogent explainer of WHY the Apple Watch has such a comparatively poor battery life.

It’s not the display. Garmins have OLED always-on displays that last for at least a week. It’s not the HR or other tracking. Other watches do that also.

It doesn’t seem to be the form factor. The AW is not impossibly thin or small or anything.

Can anyone either attempt to explain it or send me to a page that does? Thanks. I’m earnestly curious.

I think it simply comes down to Apple deciding that daily charging is okay and putting effort into other features.

Battery capacity? Taptic engine and the speaker take a lot of internal space in the Apple Watch.

    Try comparing capacity numbers

    It’s an interesting question.

Imagine if AW allowed you to really turn off features. Say you were off grid for a few days or something. Turn all internet access, sensors to minimum use, cellular off, etc.

Wonder how many days for just watch function, step counting, maybe GPS on demand.

As others have said the AW might have a physically smaller battery, simply because all the sensors and stuff inside take away space from it.

The really positive aspect is that you have the option to buy either a watch or both and live with them for a while to end up with the one you like.

I see a lot saying it can do this and this and this, okay great but what if you don’t use it for this this and this? Battery life is still shit, just because you don’t use a feature doesn’t make battery life any better. I mean I don’t use mine any more than I would a Garmin, mainly for fitness tracking, I don’t make calls or play music or send messages etc just mainly as a fitness tracker, batter still crap
