I was never a huge poster on Reddit and certainly never a mod so I don’t have that level of experience. Should I try creating a community here on lemmy.world myself? Or should I stick to making suggestions and leave it to people with more experience?
Create some and then reach out to the mods of those subs on reddit and hand the reins over should they come over to Lemmy?
If others seem to open to helping and seem valid, and you get overwhelmed, no reason to wait for Reddit users to grant mod powers.
Yeah, I guess it kinda depends on the size of the subreddit, there’s quite a few small low participation ones that would be nice to see brought over to Lemmy, but like OP said, they have no experience of moderating or, like myself, aren’t able to dedicate the amount of time needed to moderate a community once it starts to grow. I’ve already created two such communities that will in their infancy will pretty much be just mirrors of the relevant subreddit.
Go for it! Great time to try something new and get experience!
I’m very unsure about it, since I could be taking the spot of someone who knows better. Specially on communities I’d love to exist, but I wouldn’t be able to contribute with posts myself (thinking of art communities, for example)
alwais make new nodes fren, dat the point of dis place being federated :D

Creating new communities seems disabled right now, anyway…?
Ah. I did notice that some folk have been, um, rather enthusiastic about creating new communities … 😬
