I just joined from the reddit-exidus. I’m very impressed by all the hard work going into Lemmy. If you want to help fight off the next wave of the hug of death, you can support: https://join-lemmy.org/donate
I’m curios to know how can I help with developing lenmy-ui. It is made with React fork, which I know very well.
Here is the GitHub https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy
Yeah, I’ve been there, just haven’t found clear contribution instructions, will check again. Thanks!
There is a contribution guide available here.
The front-end repository is actually: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui
Edit: I suggested some changes to the default theme. Here is the link if anyone wants to take a look: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1183
It’d be neat to get a bunch of themes around. The default is quite nice compared to xxddit, but options are fun :) (For example, I’d love to see a solarized dark theme)
It all starts somewhere, right? We’ll be up to speed in no time at this rate
Yeah it’s a little clunky but the beauty is that the reddit we all want is a very lightweight minimalist app anyway so it’s a lot easier to replicate than if they were building another bloated app like the official one
Same. It’s cool to be in this early and hopefully be able to watch it grow. Now to get my SO to join too. She is a habitual lurker. I have a big mouth, go figure.
@vatlark indeed. I use Lemmy a lot. i can recommend having a look at kbin as well.
Can I interact with kbin magazines from lemmy? I’m still confused about the fediverse.
Coming from old.reddit, it’s less than ideal.
As another user of old reddit, I feel like the Lemmy lay-out is more like new reddit than old reddit, with the profile pics and all.
You can disable them from the settings.
What bothers me is the site width is like 20% of my screen width. So much empty space.
Yeah I agree, it’s kinda weird.
Same! I’m loving it. I still hope Reddit can fix things, but I’m a permanent user here already. It’s just so fun, and it being smaller is a big pro for me. Already got my best friend, who I met on Reddit four years ago, to join!
I’m glad I went the self hosted route for this, but I can tell federating with other servers that some of them are HURTING. Particularly Lemmy.ml. Taking a while to get subscribed to communities there.
