From my perspective both Democrats and Republicans are racist and both keep racism in the US alive. Of course Republicans are worse, but whenever Democrats are in power they either do racism themselves or keep many of the racist policies in place instead (= keeping racism alive)

      You’re missing the point.

There of course are racist individuals in both parties and there are also upstanding members of each party, yes despite what some media implies not all GOP politicians are racist. For example McCain through his life didn’t show anything that would imply racism[1].

Anyway in the past it happened that many Democrat members were racist. The party decided to not allow it. GOP saw this as an opportunity to gain new voters to appeal to people who were upset about DNC change. This GOP move was called the southern strategy and it did cause many voters to change the party.

This is the main difference. It isn’t about individuals but about each party stance on the issue.

It is sad that it got even worse. For example in 2016 GOP was actually seeing that they were losing voters so they started being open to accept LGBT and you could see that in debates, but then trump appeared and showed they can go even further right and get voters from there.

I think they are holding to trump so strongly, because they believe that they will lose everyone if they change now.

[1] Best case was when running for president during a town hall when one of his voters was attacking Obama, he tactfully corrected her and said that Obama is also a good guy, and they just have difference in opinion what’s best for the country.

Exactly what I’m saying too. Overall Democrats are better than Republicans, but they are both equally guilty of perpetuating racism

Equally guilty of perpetuating, disproportionately guilty of worsening (Republicans more guilty by a landslide of worsening)

If you pull the knife out two inches, it’s not better.

If it’s fully removed it’s not better.

Action needs to be taken to heal it and prevent it ever happening again.

          Republicans bury the knife

          Democrats remove the knife

Neither has done enough to stop the knife from being in the fucking room

Agree that wounds need time and care to heal. Are you suggesting reparations? I’ve seen articles where they have taken land from black people decades ago and are trying to do reparations for that now. I’m not sure how we could do that large scale though. Black people have been denied much opportunity for buying homes over the last few generations all over the US. I don’t see how we could politically get it passed to give them better mortgage rates or anything though. Tax breaks maybe?

I’d love to see some good thoughts on this.

Accounts that are deposited into for children to be released to the individual at the time they turn 18 or start college, whichever comes first.

How we determine the amount will be a sliding scale with those from the poorest families getting the most and those in an overly wealthy family will get nothing or almost nothing.

Racism in this country has almost solidly placed non-white people at the bottom of the economic ladder and this would not only help those at the bottom who are non-white, but those who are white too. Lifting from the bottom.

At least that’s if capitalism has to be involved
