How are folks using the decidedly beta Mlem doing?

It’s not as fully built as the developer’s demo pages would suggest.

However, it can do more than some have criticized.

It’s definitely idiosyncratic at this point.

So, I’m curious, in the spirit of assisting in getting this community going, to share what people have figured out that works.

If you look around at the GitHub activity and upcoming pull requests, it’s about to get a lot better quite quickly (and very different) so I wouldn’t get too invested in how it functions at the moment.

Thing 1: when posting, don’t hit cancel or you’ll lose your draft; but when commenting, if you don’t hit cancel, the server will refuse your comment.

can’t edit so do it right the first time or you’ll end up with multiple replies to the same posting 🤣 but otherwise am loving the experience!

Thing 2: you can only post in one group, not in your main feed. To get into a group, you need to hit the group’s title in a post (as the tabs to choose groups don’t seem to exist yet).

I mean it works. Nothing fancy. A bit of stutter when scrolling. I believe in time it can be useful. Still enjoy over website.

It’s been kinda crap for me, regularly forgetting my logins. Mlemmy for iOS has been a bit better.

      Is Mlemmy different from Mlem?

I was trying Mlem in beta through Test Flight, but it wasn’t very functional yet, despite the nice interface. (I’ve been finding just going through the browser good enough for now.)

Yessir. They’re trying to go for an Apollo feel I think, and there’s some things that are still missing, I can actually use Mlemmy. Mlem can’t even save my login once it’s unopened for an hour or so.
