I found infinite to be enjoyable, definitely better than the garbage campaign for halo 4.
Infinite didn’t really seem to fit the storyline as far as I could tell, but I’ve given up on caring about that after the disaster that was the halo show.
I enjoyed the story of 4. The enemies and gameplay weren’t very fun. But the story was fantastic.
Aside from the fact that 5 brought back Cortana and 2/3 of it was Locke chasing Chief, the actual story was solid and the Guardians were a fantastic stand-in for the Halo rings of the original trilogy, and the gameplay felt like what they intended for 4. I was pretty excited for the conclusion of the Prometheans and how they would resolve the new rampant Cortana.
Infinite was great at the surface, without much to add to the franchise, without a lot of variety or polish. And it just skipped a lot of potential story telling. It felt like an epilogue DLC to a Halo 6 game that was never made. Like, if you got a small super-sweet dessert for dinner that was only great for the first bite, and it just gets worse the more you eat. Then you were told they threw away the steak.
