Thatā€¦ didnā€™t last long. Itā€™s a shame as a lot of the communities I subscribe to are there, but I donā€™t have an interest in joining a restrictive instance like theirs. This really highlights the fragility of these self-hosted instances and the platform in general.

Iā€™m hoping someone builds a client that lets you transparently log in to multiple users and get a mixed feed from all of their sources.

Thereā€™s the potential to do that. But at that point youā€™re essentially a full blown lemmy instance, minus publishing. Iā€™m hosting my own because Iā€™m a masochist/interested in the tech, and going out and finding groups to add to mine is essentially what Iā€™ve done all evening. Limited registration and Iā€™m getting feeds from both of these servers on my client.

As they mentioned their decision is effective immediately and it looks like their users canā€™t interact with the defederated ones but the instances that federate with them can interact there. Isnā€™t this just a win-win for everybody?
