Welcome

Hello everyone and welcome to the Canadian Grand Prix Weekend thread.

Details about this race can be found here.

Sessions

This thread will cover all the sessions this weekend, so that’s all 3 practice sessions, qualifying, and the race.

We will monitor how this goes to see if we need more granularity.

Spoilers

The rules around spoilers are not yet in place, therefore we won’t be enforcing anything around spoilers this weekend. This goes beyond the scope of this thread too.

If you do not want spoilers, please do not look in this community this weekend.

The aim is to have a finished set of rules ready by mid next week.

For those of us in Canada I hope one day we get coverage without Ads… That’s my favorite part of the US GP weekends. :D

We had ads in the UK for a few years. I hated coming back to the race to Murry Walker announcing “drama in the German grand prix…” only to get a replay of a major incident. I feel for you buddy!

We do, but TSN (sports Network here) carries it all. So if you have cable why pay extra :)

Just that they shrink the race down into picture and picture and show you ads, always when something key is happening too.

Anyone aware of any communities similar to r/motorsportsreplays or r/motorsportssteams?

I’m not aware of any communities yet, but I’d recommend taking a look at SportSurge. Easy enough to use, and should have streams for F1 sessions.

Yeah I’m aware of sportsurge, can never seem to find an F1 Live commentary stream though.

Interesting, I’ve used it for years for full seasons and never missed a session. Just be sure to use the new V2 version. Best of luck!

To clarify I meant F1TV’s commentary, plenty of sky streams on there though.

Thanks to the mods for making this thread!

Hoping for a good race, though it’s bit late in the evening for us Europeans

I think I tuned into the wrong channel. Instead of FP1 I got 55 minutes of marmot talk.

I look forward to McLaren raising my hopes, and then dashing them quite expertly.

Don’t know if you watched FP1, but they mentioned that Mikka Haekkinen apparently said that he expects McLaren to be the closest to …the fucking Red Bull. They also mentioned that Suspension and two other things I forgot are apparently fairly similar, they just haven’t extracted the potential.

Take it with a bag of salt I guess… ;)

how do y’all feel about race weekends with these later than usual session start times?

I hate them, give me my 8-9am sessions!
How about you Euros/Asians? Are these times better or worse?

European here, if I don’t have anything planned for the weekend, I love them. If I plan a night out on Saturday, I hate them. Right now, I love it.

UK. Love them. Nothing like having a good weekend ending with a live race on a Sunday evening.

As an American, I greatly dislike the later times when races are on this side of the world. I don’t mind waking up like 6,7,8am or whatever to watch a session. Or even staying up very late til like 4am. Even on Fridays for FP1 and FP2.

Idk, I like getting F1 “out of the way” so to speak, then I can do whatever else I need to do for rest of the day.

Like right now, it’s 12:30p for me. That’s not terrible since it’s lunch time. But FP2 is at like 4pm; I tend to take a nap around then. If I was still working from the office, I’d be leaving the office around then.

This is partially what got me into Premier League soccer. I was already up early on the weekends with my daughter, I want to watch live sports in the AM!

AF Corse are an independent team, not related to Ferrari. They just have Ferrari cars.
