Since running a Kbin instance implies some costs, it might be good to implement some ways for admins to monetize their instance. Has this been considered?

I believe it has. It is a great idea but people get upset when you request funds. Ernest can be donated to here https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin.
The other instances can set this up to as well as long as it is not a requirement for use I don’t believe people will have an issue@Shortcake I mean something a bit more baked in, like the possibility to show ads, or maybe paid memberships, for example.
I suspect anyone pushing ads is probably going to find themselves swiftly defederated, lol
