Idk what the culture is over there but it was just a bit funny to see the entire thread I was replying to just removed. Like that doesn’t happen here on kbin lmao. a bit of a culture clash there I guess.
I wonder if that’s the norm for lemmy and beehaw? Here on kbin basically nothing is removed it seems. at least for now.
Interesting
I’m already noticing “cultural” differences between the different instances, almost like they’re virtual countries with their own traditions, but still able to see and talk to each other
It’s beautifully chaotic and open, like the Internet should be!
Yup. that’s kinda how it feels to me. I saw someone describe it as lemmy is america and the lemmy instances are the states. and then kbin is canada lol.
As an America currently browsing kbin from a Canadian bar I like the analogy.
kbin is canada
confused lemmy.ca noises
lemmy.ca? I see you’re from california.
Guess I’m canadian then. Do you guys have some maple syrup?
your username ironically really proves the point. Just a few moments ago I saw beehaw users talking about how they’re strictly against loli content (declaring it “illegal” even though that’s not quite true), and here you are on kbin with it in your username lol.

Ehhhh. Depends upon the specifics and the geographical region where someone is. Not like there’s one global law.

America isn’t run by tankies.
*so far
hun this is kbin not lemmygrad
It is if you ask a Trumper/QAnoner.
okay this is just funny. idk why all the right-wing republican types think people like biden are full on tankies lol. its just silly.
Trump/QAnon is all about checking out from reality.
Is Lemmy? That would explain some things
the main official lemmy.ml instance and the development of the lemmy software is indeed run by tankies. other lemmy instances may or may not be tankies.
@Otome-chan report this one lol I’ll see if it works here
tchambers: If you stumble upon a report to delete this, go ahead. I wanna see who the delete shows under in mod log
deleted by creator
Lol it doesn’t tell me it’s reported… Probably because it’s my comment
More learning has happenedCan you report your own comment?
went ahead and reported my own comment. hopefully that works.
well, i understand nothing. i see reports from neither my comment nor yours that you reported, i tried to delete yours anyway and i suspected since i saw no report to act on, it listed me as the action taker…
@tchambers, can you see a report on a comment for any comments in this thread? also i saw you delete and restore a comment of mine, how did you do that?
Beehaw definitely had its own standard they try to uphold. Just means choosing your instance is important to your experience.
Yup. Choosing an instance is quite important, but also difficult to actually do when you’re new to the platform. kinda a catch-22. it’s hard to tell which instance you’re a good “fit” for before you start using the fediverse, and once you’re on the fediverse you already have an instance.
There really should be a guide or something showing the largest instances, what their ethos/views are towards the fediverse, etc. Beehaw makes this pretty clear and have written several posts on it. But outside of just going to beehaw and looking at that, there’s not really a way to know.
It’s easy enough to get the vibe of users from an instance by interacting with them a bit, but that implies you’re already on the fediverse.
There’s been some attempt to do what you mentioned already
For sure. It would be interesting if a method to migrate instances was built into the backend of lemmy, but this could potentially cause a lot of headache for instance owners as well. Probably not in the cards, but would solve this problem for sure.
Replying from Lemmy. 👋 Not the norm over here either. I wonder if there is just some weird sync issue happening?
Lemmy communities have public Mod Logs so even if a thread was removed I don’t think it’s gone forever.
When Stalinists are running the main Lemmy instances, it should not be surprising if history undergoes sudden and frequent changes there.
There’s an entire book on this predilection of Stalinism: “The Commissar Vanishes: The Falsification of Photographs and Art in Stalin’s Russia” (1997), by David King.
More mundanely, posters on the main Lemmy instances should already have seen that if anyone mentions oppression by certain states, e.g. the systematic oppression of certain minorities, this will ironically be labeled as “racism.” The racism of genocide denial is a Stalinist’s bread and butter, and will never result in deletions or bans.
Interesting. A few threads (from lemmy instances and beehaw) just ended up showing up as “removed” when I tried going to them. I figured the mods there removed it for whatever reason.
on kbin entire thread removals on that basically haven’t happened since I’ve been here, and moderation is pretty light as a whole (either due to the admin being very busy, or just the culture). I had heard lemmy.ml is pretty heavy on the censoring/removals so I figured it was that. I know beehaw has a weird culture thing as well that sounds like they’d be pretty quick to remove stuff that is “off-brand”.
Lemmy has public mod logs if you’re ever curious
So does kbin modlog
I just looked and sure enough:
alyaza has removed thread by pillarist - Reddit CEO assures employees that API pricing protests haven’t hurt revenue
that’s a beehaw thread posted in technology@beehaw.org. This is the sorta thing I mean lol. Like what an odd thing to remove? Surely it’s a fitting topic for a technology group?
Like what an odd thing to remove?
Not sure if this link will work—or if it’s relevant to the specific mod action you quoted—but that same mod put up a thread with some context around the purging you were talking about.

Hi, I’m replying from Lemmy.
It could be the communities (magazines) I’m in, but I haven’t seen anything acting that way (with the exception of some instance overloads that caused federation issues during the first wave of Rexxit earlier this week).
I can’t say if maybe there are some issues in certain communities where that’s happening.
Haha Rexxit! I love that!
As a Brit I feel triggered :(
tbh rexxit is kinda as much of a mess as brexit
