funnily enough, you could do software updates in the background. some software can even update without resetting, this company chose to ruin people’s experience.

No doubt collecting the time and temperatures you cook at, likely linked to a type of food (raw meat setting etc), so they can sell your cooking habits to marketers. Why else would they do this?
