Counterpoint: Rudy Giuliani in 2008. Still seen as “America’s Mayor,” broadly considered to have general election appeal, led primary polls for almost all of 2007, highest fundraising etc. He was legitimately seen as the front runner.

His campaign decided to ignore early voting states and focus on Florida and other more populous states to amass delegates. The result: a complete and total collapse of his campaign. As it turns out, every legitimate candidate focuses on early voting states for a reason.

What about Jeb Bush? At least Giuliani lost the nomination to a worthy opponent… (DeSantis is merely discovering that no one is better at being Trump than Trump is.)

"He started the primary on third base and stole second.”

    Brilliant quote :)

It’s not really all that heart-warming to me that the trump cult is that loyal, but if that loyalty is the driving force behind desantis crashing and burning, I’ll begrudgingly call said loyalty a silver lining…

Desantis is bad mojo… Arguably worse than trump. Trump at least has a fuzzy sort of sense about where the line is that he’s constantly crossing… Desantis goes flying over that motherfucker without any clue that it’s even there. Zero reservations on the dude, and it’s kind of alarming. I dislike the prospect of desantis to a much greater degree than I dislike trump.

I think you forgot how bad and blatantly stupid Trump actually was.

I think you may have it mixed up. DeSantis knows where the line is and crosses it because he likes to piss people off. Trump is just an idiot.

That being said, I can’t argue with the prospect that DeSantis may be worse than Trump was.

This isn’t all that surprising given that desantis has all the charisma of a wet sock. He is just a jackbooted piece of shit that no one likes.

They are less jackboots and more… Cowboy Christmas Elf Boots w/Risers.

For an aspiring fascist overlord, he has /terrible/ fashion sense.

Or, worse, this is actually seen as fashionable in Florida.

EDIT: For the record I am not knocking that particular kind of cowboy boot that is /very ostentatious/, colored brightly and extended fsr beyond the toe line for obvious flashiness and comedic effect. DeSantis here is in the sort of uncanny valley between more standard cowboy boots and those.

Yeah how did he even win in Florida in the first place? I never really paid attention to their governors until desantis

The democratic party candidates have all been garbage for the last 2 elections. In 2018 the guy was too far left for most people. He wanted to abolish ICE (which he can’t do as gov), and enact Medicare for All (which even didn’t get Bernie elected). In 2022, the Dem candidate was Charlie Crist, who was a former Republican (and used to be a Republican Florida governor a long time ago). The only thing people remember about Crist was that he used to be a Republican. Why the DNC thought the Dem voters would want him back again, I have no idea. There was a legitimately better candidate on the ballot who lost the primary because of him after she had a pretty solid campaign momentum going. They never should’ve put him on the ballot. He entered way too late and his campaign had no real substance. Hoping 2026 will go better.
