I was going through the All feed blocking porn subs, and finally realized I could just turn off NSFW in the app. Nothing against the porn, but I feel it’s something to be seeked out rather than served up unexpectedly.
I’m bummed because not all NSFW is porn. If I didn’t have to see a thinly blurred image of a spread eagle lady surrounded by several… members… and yeah, let’s just say the blurring doesn’t do anything. Also, I don’t want to run into CP or bestiality but I’d like to be able to see posts with foul language or anything related to the news…
Yeah same here. I’ve just been manually blocking porn communities because I don’t want to toggle the NSFW option on.
I made a few posts I’d consider NSFW, but aren’t porn related. I tagged them as such and now I’m thinking that even if I wanted to expand my audience, the people that blocked porn wouldn’t get to see them anyway.
For the interested, I tried creating a community where people could share interesting medical photos with educational content. So far it’s basically just me in it and I want to be able to have the time to post more to see if it catches on, but I dunno that it would anyway.
Edit: There was even a NSFW meme I saw recently that I found funny. I wouldn’t want it blocked from me. It’s not porn, just a funny photo that happens to have a cartoon dick in it. Good to know not to look at it when at work, but also something I don’t mind having on my page.
What I don’t want to see on my page is endless furry porn, giant cocks and tits everywhere, etc. when I’m just looking for memes and chat.
Being able to self block entire instances will be super helpful when they eventually add the feature. I have nothing against porn, I just don’t want it to be in my feed.
There should be a distinction between butt plug pictures and swearing. I was wondering if the NSFW filter is concealing content I want to see.
There really should be 3 tags for content: Obscene Language, NSFW (Porn), and NSFL (gore).
Honestly reddit, and now Lemmy, is missing NSFW categorization. Some people don’t mind swearing or nudity, but don’t want to see gore and/or porn. It might be wise to implement some kind of categorization system. It could also give instances more flexibility in what kind of content they wish to federate.
Yeah, I kinda agree. When I want the porn, I’ll seek out the porn.
I’m so glad the app I’m using right now added NSFW blur recently. As long as the person posted marked it correctly, I’m no longer getting surprise porn all over the place.
Now, if only the people posting would always remember to mark things NSFW…
I turned off adult content, but then couldnt see my own posts in an 18+ mag(not porn) that I mod.
Where porn goes, users go, this is a good thing
They will carry us forward. There’s an entire instance for nsfw content now fyi (lemmynsfw.com)
I even created a comm cuz I missed it lol (!animemidriff@lemmynsfw.com). Might end up making more of the ones I miss if others don’t
Did reddit announce anything regarding NSFW?
