After a briefing from the state DOT, Ald. Bauman is pushing to delay the Downtown plan, claiming freeway spur replacement and streetcar expansion aren’t realistic.
Given that the City’s stance on the new restrictions is to fight them (see the second half of this article), perhaps it would still be wise to keep the streetcar portion in the plan. Additionally, WisDOT has been more open to more human-friendly road design lately (see the National Avenue redesign and the public meeting a few weeks ago about the future of the Stadium Freeway), so perhaps the tone on the I-794 east-west portion will change given further pressure.

What they presented for national ave absolutely blew me away! Such an amazing walkable design. Hopefully even if they keep 794, they make similar improvements to walkability
