Just learned about this word and I’m mildly annoyed it’s only one letter away from being an anagram of tankie.
Vatnik is basically a cotton blanket cut in a shape of jacket. The cheapest kind of winter outerwear, and very recognizable as Soviet uniform from the old war films.

I already saw refusenik in israeli context. So, I guess, this word can adapt to any situation. Just like russian apparatchik (a part of a government appartus) I was surprised to see in the old-ass Hunt for the Red October by Tom Clancy.
Doesn’t the lack a pejorative for someone who follows western propaganda somewhat speak to the propagandistic aspect of this term as well as the whole “tankie” fad?
Wouldn’t those be Lib, Fed, and pig with all its derivitives?
What do you call non-western propaganda anyway? Eastern propaganda just doesn’t sound right even though it would be the most logical.
Yeah, guess you’re right, but aren’t the latter two just variations of calling someone a cop?
It’s pretty common to see terms like “Russian propaganda” and “Chinese propaganda”, while “American/EU propaganda” is seldom spoken about, at least in Western countries.
Ive heard the term porky used before to denote someone who likes capitalism so not always. Either way there are loads of anti authoritarians on the left so calling someone a cop would be an insult.
Fair I have heard people say “American bullshit” before and complain about the news regularly in the UK. That being said most of the newspapers here are just rags. For an example post any Daily Mail article and someone will point out how terrible that publication is.
They are not exactly the same, but do have a significant overlap. An interesting find, never thought of that.
I guess we could call them tankivs going forward. It would be kinda fitting.
