Thanks for sending this! Having registrations open was a mistake, but I wasn’t sure how to fix without nuking everything. This helps quite a bit!

I think if you want a real count of the community it’s best to look at the Communities page. It seems like there is either a bug in the reporting due to integration with other Lemmy instances or someone wrote a script that is taking advantage of open registration.
It’s the latter, fediverse observer shows 65K users here practically overnight
For now, I turned off open registration.
