I got sick of having a way too big server chassis in my short depth rack so decided to split my server into two short depth chassis. I put the motherboard in a sliger 17" 3U case, then built up this 2U 17" case I got off of amazon.

jbod chassis
here is the case with some noctua fans, power supply, a cable adapter card and some led strips I had from a different build that I thought might be cool to include

8x 6TB drives
these are my 8 drives that are in my array, the two parity drives stayed in the motherboard chassis

front of rack
here is how my rack looks now with the JBOD sitting above the sliger motherboard case so that the top has some space for the psu to get some are since there is a patch panel above it

top shelf
top shelf of the rack with three fans I added on the rear to help keep everything cool and all the air moving from front to back. I had to remove the back plate of the rack because the large chassis I was using before was sticking out and now with the ups, jbod and server they are too close to the back so I just kept it off

3U case before being built up
forgot to take more photos of the main server build

So far they are keeping the drives around 35C so I think it’s fine, I don’t have any fan control on them so they are just full speed so we will see how they do in the summer

    • @variants I live in Dominican Republic, where we have 4 seasons like everywhere else: Hot, Hotter, Hottest and Hell.

My Unraid drives are usually at 33 Celsius, and have seen them at a top temperature of 36 when checking Partity (once per month). It has been like that for almost 4 years now.

This is a place in my house that can see an ambient temperature of 32 at night when the AC is off. Never had an issue.

      You’ll be just fine.
