Iowa already charges EV owners a $130 registration fee. Now they will start charging a $0.026 tax on EV charging at charging stations.

And don’t forget subsidizing gas guzzlers by shoving ethanol down our throats.

Oh, the unsurprise. It’s a bit more interesting seeing who’s Undecided, though that probably means their lobbyist boss just didn’t send them in to do their thing.

This does make sense though. Gas taxes pay for quite a bit of roadwork. As more vehicles become electric, they will be pulling in less money from gas taxes. Something like this was going to need to happen at some point and it’s probably better that it’s done before the majority of people are driving electric vehicles.

Did you watch the video? Just like the electric vehicle registration, the “fuel” tax for electric is much higher than gas. It shows that Iowa isn’t interested in pushing forward electric vehicles, and instead will subsidize the gas prices on the backs of ev owners.

I agree. I’m all for electric vehicle adoption, but the money to build and maintain roads needs to come from somewhere. Implementing these policies before widespread EV adoption can help ensure there isn’t a gap in funding for our roads.
