The Steam Summer Sale is on now — find great deals on thousands of games!
I just went all-in on Final Fantasy on this sale. Almost all the games are on sale for super cheap. I realized that while Final Fantasy is probably my favorite series of all time, I’ve never finished one. Not a single one. They’ve always been so long that I never had the time to get through them. I can fondly remember being a kid playing FF1 on my NES with my brother, drawing maps, and trying to figure the game out. Flash forward to working, getting married, having kids…
But now, I am older (and blessedly single) and I have much more control over my time. I’m going on a Final Fantasy binge, from 6 to 16. I’m stupidly excited to actually complete these games.
A game that is relatively unknown but definitely deserves a highlight is The Riftbreaker, it’s an action basebuilder where you get to fight hordes of enemy waves while exploring, mining and building defenses. The devs have been really dedicated for years now, the game feels polished and fun, co-op is in development too and might be out within a year, it has a modding community…
It’s just a really good, fun game with no bullshit attached.
Against the storm has piqued my interest, combining my two fav genres of citybuilding and roguelites. Anybody have any opinion on it?
It’s great honestly. 100% recommend!
I’ve been gushing about it before, it’s an excellent game made by dedicated devs. They have regular biweekly updates, constant communication and interaction with community, aren’t afraid to make huge changes and additions to the game even though it already feels really stable, polished and practically finished. They started with a very novel idea of a roguelike basebuilder and somehow, through countless iterations, managed to make it actually good, balanced fun.
They deserve every cent for it, the game is wonderfully charming and engaging, just keep in mind that it might not be for everyone since your bases are all supposed to end relatively quickly - you won’t be building a 50hour city like in Anno, Rimworld or other genre-adjacent games. For many that’s a plus since these games tend to drag on and get boring in the later phases though.
I’ve been tempted by Deep Rock Galactic for a while but never pulled the trigger because none of my friends are likely to join me. Would people still recommend it? What would you need to pick up DLC wise?
DRG is an amazing game, most dlc is free or cosmetic I believe. The community is one of the best, I’ve had less than a handful of toxic interactions in the years I’ve played it.
Rock and stone, brother!
I spent most of my 200+ hours in DRG so far playing with randoms because my friends aren’t as into it as I am. I can definitely say random matchmaking works great, and the community is amazing barring a few leaf lovers here and there.
Also the DLC is all cosmetic, so no need to buy any if you don’t want.
solo DRG is totally viable! you get a cute little companion drone that will guard you (very lightly), and you can order it to go grab stuff that is out of reach. the dev team is the absolute ideal role model for how game devs should strive to act. they continue to push free new content, and nothing is locked behind a paywall
I love solo DRG (I like Scout), and like the others said the only way you can spend money on the game besides the actual purchase is cosmetics!
Disco elysium doesn’t generate any revenue for its developers anymore, skip it and pirate it
Pondering Crusader Kings III at 50% off…
If you haven’t played Outer Wilds yet, stop what you’re doing and pick it up now:

Don’t read anything about it, don’t watch any videos about it, just jump in! If I could erase anything from my memory I would erase this game so I could experience the joy of discovering everything for the first time again.
My shortlist so far (includes stuff I already own but would totally pick up if I didn’t)
what kinds of things are you guys gonna pick up?
Haven’t quite decided.
Was looking at the remastered Mana series for nostalgia. Possibly Horizon:Zero Dawn or God of War since I haven’t played either yet.Tactics Ogre reborn maybe or Triangle Strategy
This is what I will be getting if you’re curious. Going to sit on it for a day or two before pulling the trigger.
Frog Detective 3 and Crisis Core Remaster, probably.
I’m a bit bummed because the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters aren’t on sale, but I have no problem waiting.
There aren’t a lot of games I’m really interested in, that I don’t have already or aren’t still relatively new or in Early Access, so they don’t get a huge discount anyway.
Snagged Eastward, D:OS2, FFX/X-2, and DBZ Kakarot so far.
Is this the first time that Hogwarts Legacy is on sale?
Don’t forget that the Steam Deck is also discounted - 10% off for the 64, 20% off for the 512.
Thinking of getting Chained Echoes on an Apple Silicon Mac. Has anyone tried it on an Apple Silicon Mac? Love to know if it plays well.
Hi everyone! Just leaving a comment because I want this platform (Kbin/Lemmy/etc) to succeed, and because I love game deals. Just a reminder that we need to post and leave comments ourselves; we’re on the frontier for this platform, and no one’s going to do it for us!
I may need to pick up the FF7 Remake again because I sold my PS4. Bittersweet but I know this edition has some extra content as well.
