Obligatory fuck Nintendo, but don’t make too much light out of this lawsuit. They’re aren’t attacking the legality of emulation itself (which has a ton of precedent defending it) but are instead trying to convince a judge that Yuzu is a DRM circumvention tool.
If they land a technologically-inept judge that believes decryption itself constitutes circumvention regardless of how it’s used in the bigger picture, there’s a decent chance the argument might have some teeth. Or, because there’s no precedent for this, the lawsuit will drag on until Yuzu runs out of money and is forced to settle.
If it’s within your financial means, please donate to Yuzu. If they lose this lawsuit, the precedent it sets will open up other emulators that work with encrypted ROMs (e.g. Dolphin and Ryujinx) to similar lawsuits.
I think it’s about money, just like with Vanced. Google didn’t care for the hacked YouTube client before the team behind the mod tried to make money off of it. Now Yuzu did the same and Nintendo went after them.
Tachiyomi didn’t try to monetize tho, still got taken down
Tachiyoumi is a different case, they absolutely could win but didn’t have resources to go to court.
How did they try to monetize?
Patron that boomed with totk being leaked, but that’s hardly their issue
what did they do?

I thought they won against Dolphin? Or am I just thinking when Steam removed it.
Steam didn’t want to get involved so they decided to remove Dolphin until Dolphin and Nintendo come to an agreement, which will never happen.
Dolphin is still going strong on its own.
Dolphin is still very real and updates frequently (in nightly builds). Check out their GitHub.
Dolphin is in a better state than it’s ever been, now has a resampler so you can get those crisp pixels like on original hardware. For anyone whose interest is in actually playing old Nintendo games over speculating on their IP, even if they own a cartridge, they’re probably playing on Dolphin.
I believe steam backed out so they wouldn’t be sued by Nintendo
I just subscribed to the patreon in response
This uhhh… Didn’t age well :(
Fear not, yuzu may be gone but there are always alternatives. Plus like YouTube Vanced, the yuzu latest build is likely to continue to work for the foreseeable future.
For a thriving alternative, check out Ryujinx, and keep an eye out for Yuzu mainline getting picked up by another team with a slightly higher barrier to entry.
The neat thing about open source software is they are really hard to kill unless interest burns out, but considering how hard yuzu has been hitting headlines I think the Streisand effect will take it course.
True, I’m more worried about Citra since interest has kind of died down for that project. I’m kind of hoping some forks show up soon that get popular enough to be put onto a package manager since there aren’t many alternatives with the same compatibility/performance (from what I can tell Panda3ds isn’t very stable yet)
I feel terrible for PC gamers. They can’t enjoy a game unless it’s on full 5k, 60fps. They would have hated my childhood playing nes and N64.
I’ve been currently playing TOTK and it’s so good, not once have I thought “OMG RESOLUTION MAKES THIS A 0/10” like the PC gamers, not once has the frame rate even been a noticeable thing, cause it’s smooth. PC gamers only care about top tier graphics, they can’t just enjoy an experience
Entirely wrong argumenrs against PC gamers. Maybe you mean hardcore Masterrace PC Gamers. There arent even a lot of them.
Most of the PC gamers just want the freedom I assume. The convinience of being able to play new random indie games online or AAA titles without needing to spend extra 30 bucks per month for luxus <replace console> internet access. Additionally you can choose your device like Steam Deck, Rog Ally, PC, Laptop or Cloud Gaming.
Like the Steam Deck, it only has 720p and I prefer to play on it over my WQHD monitor.
No xd. People only care about how the game plays, it doesn’t matter if it looks like a potato (like wow or CSGO), but whatever you say 30 fps isn’t and never was “smooth”. In my case it makes me dizzy so it’s physically unusable.
Man if I cared about framerate or resolution I wouldn’t be playing totk on my steam deck. And yes I own a switch, and yes I bought totk
For me emulation is just a convenience thing.
I like to game on the go with a steam deck (720p60), and I don’t want to carry around two handhelds
I’ve got the choice between one with pretty much every game I’ve ever bought, a nicer controller and more features, or one that has 2 games and doesn’t even support Bluetooth headphones iirc, nor will it connect to any usb c dock that wasn’t specifically designed for it
Resolution and performance is only one reason people want emulation
No, they can. They just enjoy an overall smoother and prettier experience. I was once able to afford such a machine.
Hell, tuning the graphics and all that is an experience. I used to get games I’d never play looking as good as possible just because it was fun to tinker until I got the best performance I could get.
It’s a whole other experience. I’m happy to play whatever, but that was fun too.
I still have my old consoles hooked up to an old crt. I still play my NES and N64 regularly.
It’s funny how absolutely off the mark wrong you are about this, and wrong on more than just one level.
