IIRC this is something that’s been getting rolled out poorly for quite a while now. They want to create a central login/authentication system (login.gov) for government websites, a generally solid idea, but the transition has been a bit of a mess everywhere it goes.

51·4 months agoThis is a classic example of people not respecting bikes. That’s like saying you’re allowed to make a right turn in front of someone from the left lane as long as you’re just a bit ahead of them.
Mullenweg has been blocking WP Engine hosting’s access to .org resources, and even stripping them of access to plugins they distribute there. Not the biggest fan of WP Engine from what I saw in their Advanced Custom Fields plugin buyout (they messed with the existing licensing and focused on monetizing the crap out of it), but things aren’t alright in the WP universe.
101·5 months agoOriginated and enabled well before there were other active Lemmy instances or possibly even federation of any sort. It was put in place to stop anti-trans harassment.
Plus AFAIK it’s only truly applicable within Hexbear itself. The main effect it has is that a Hexbear user can’t downvote anything on any instance with their account.

I’m pretty sure they are literally buying tons of them from China. What are you even on. There aren’t any restrictions there because that’s part of their neutrality. Otherwise I’m done cause this is absurd.
It’s quite easy for people who know what they’re doing to repurpose processors and components in consumer devices? And, you can also buy almost whatever cpu/component you want on Amazon too if you know what you’re looking for?
Otherwise, as I mentioned I don’t like it as a category because it leads to this silliness. At one point Israel was blocking all concrete imports to Gaza under dual use reasoning, and although I don’t like them one bit they kind of had a point. But, you also kinda need it if you want to build modern structures.
I’d assume NATO’s largely talking about machining equipment, electronics, and drones though. But, I don’t think they actually clarified anything? And while Ukraine itself probably doesn’t have much military use for the first two as any military plant would probably get hit, with how prominently drones have featured in this war they definitely fall under dual use.
What do you think dual use means?
Had my dog freak out about me getting bored and putting on my full faced helmet that he’d never seen me in as it was for racing autocross/formula SAE. Made for some fun chasing around as he was particularly worried about the helmet itself even after it was off. But, otherwise…
