The right has felt they had to “suffer” for decades now by having to be quiet about things like: McCarthy, Nixon, Pinochet, slavery, and on and on. They cannot wait to be able to jam a counter-narrative down the throats of everyone, most especially your kids in government schools run the “right” way. If some of this gives them a permission structure for some violence, all the better in their view.

I’m unsure what “both sides” they think they are dealing with. The NYT might appeal to David Brooks types and maybe some liberals that are kind of oblivious to just how right wing the NYT actually is and has been (see them building a permission structure to attack Iraq, for instance). That’s a pretty narrow band of the spectrum, but might include a fairly high percentage of Americans, who knows. Maybe this range from the David Brooks Acela corridor type of con to people that are kind of socially liberal is who they are trying to appeal to.

When it comes to the unhinged right, I think they think reading the paper will turn them gay and turn their children into Jews or Satanists. And I would say the left knows just what they are dealing with when it comes to the NYT…

I don’t want any religion of any kind having any say over what we do in a secular context. All of them, no matter what they are called, can go fuck themselves the minute they think they get special privileges over others.

All of these people can go fuck themselves. They can put copies of “the” ten commandments up in their homes or their places of worship and we’ll tolerate it. That’s how tolerance works.

Assholes like Murdoch, Ailes, Limbaugh - and all his imitators on hate radio, the Koch Brothers, Alex Jones, Newt Gingrich, the Blessed Saint Ronnie Raygun himself (PBUH), etc…have been working to dismantle any semblance of sanity, reasonableness, and consensus reality for decade upon decade.

The arrival of someone like donnie is just the latest and most visible symptom of this conservative rot.
