I have went through a similiar phase a few years ago after starting university and moving to a different city. A few years later I had the opportunity to get me some nice computer for very little money which brought me back into gaming but I honestly dont remember which game I played first.
What is something someone can gain by swarming an instance or forums like yours with bots? I cant wrap my head around it. Also if someone has an instance and swarms it with bot accounts, it may seem like you got a popular instance but where is the revenue if there are noone who is able to click an ad? Do they do it just for the lols?

No they do not have to install them by themselves but goverment intelligence agencies or police may use them against journalists.

New to this whole thing myself, but on mobile there is an Icon in the top bar that allows you to switch between different views like local, all and subscribed. Maybe you need to switch the view?
