Is this supplementing or replacing TRN streams?
Edit: NOLA’s website says it’s on TRN. Interesting move to split across two f2p services within the same market.
Player allegiance is to their team most of the time, not a school, not a geographical region, not a fan base. If a leader who was a substantial part of what made the team “the team”, then players should be able to go search out a new team.
Coaches contracts have managed to work this out. They stick out their contract or they pay (or get their next school to pay). Schools keep coaches to end of contract or they pay.
I don’t want to see players limited in ways coaches aren’t. They only get a few years to play college ball, while coaches get decades. Let the players take their best shots. It’s crazy now because it’s new, things will settle down after a couple seasons. Maybe NIL contracts start looking different to encourage players to stick around 3+ years.
Tightening up mauls and back-and-forth kicking bouts? Sounds good to me. Those things take the wind right out of games.
Seems I get my rugby news from the guardian, where else is good
I’m subscribed to Rugbydump feed and BBC Sports Rugby feed on my RSS reader. New England Free Jacks also has an RSS feed and I’m guessing most other MLR teams do as well.
TY for hosting again!
Last weekend seemed to catch all of us by surprise.
Well. Pretty confident is guessing no one predicted that outcome.
I don’t know enough about current day USA Rugby board to have much opinion, other than having real years of experience in sport makes me optimistic.
Now what was the name of that guy who penned the open letter when USA Rugby was going through a terrible phase of hiring people who didn’t know anything about rugby nor about running a sports league…
Edit: it was Tony Ridnell. He’s got some interesting posts on his blog there.
Yeah, they’re a farm system. Same as Power 5 is for the NFL
We’re just getting closer to admitting that truth and paying the athletes for their work in the minor leagues, er, I mean college. And maybe someday soon we’ll come to grips with how outrageously oversized the minor leagues are compared to the majors.
I was rooting for France this time. That isn’t the way I want any game to end.
Is the week 2 match thread locked intentionally, @Olap@lemmy.world ?
Ouch. Tough first opponent.
As humble winner of the cup competition 😎, I’m cool with the same format.
And very appreciative of you, Olap, for setting it up.
I chat with one other person on Lemmy into rugby and will poke them to join. If they do, that’s like a 20% increase over the cup!
Hoops = the broad stripes that cover the whole jersey, like NOLA aways. Mardi gras hoops.
Collared/no-collar, I am agnostic. Depends on the rest of the kit for me. I think they look better on traditional jerseys (NEFJ) and less so on modern efforts (Miami does not have collars and I think that’s a good choice).
Hoops > everything else. Chicago and NEFJ homes and NOLAs aways. I think I like Miami’s aways too, but want to see them on the field.
its primary purpose will be to develop US-eligible players
So they won’t recruit international players unless they are eligible for the Eagles? Weird self-limitation. I wonder what the reason was; investors wanted a “made in America” type team?
I think the league would struggle to absorb one team, let alone two now. And the international-based players who had put time and money down to move themselves and possibly family to Toronto or NYC, ouch.
What a disappointment. I had a chance to go to two of their games (each time in a different stadium). I always saw engagement from people there to be pretty good. I’m sad for them that they didn’t get matching energy from a bigger portion of the community outside game day stadium attendees.
And also me from another instance because the lemmy.one admin went radio silent for a month and I wanted a backup account. This federated thing is cool, but not the easiest.
Thanks. Off to shop for crab meat.
