I legitimately did this when I was homeless for about a year. Cigarettes were a forum of currency and I always had one in my hat or behind my ear, I would just tell people hey it’s my last one if they asked for it as well

Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•Realizing Arch isn't for me after updating broke VLC111·22 days agoIf that happened to me I’d not want to deal with that again either.
What has made arch work for me is BTRFS filesystem with the grub module grub-btrfs. It gives you BTRFS snapshots you can load into at grub and with snapper and auto snap it will automatically create a restore point before updating.
It’s worked flawlessly and thanks to BTRFS black magic the snapshots don’t take up much storage space. I also recommend BTRFS assistant in the aur if you don’t mind using a gui.
If you want an easy arch setup + friendly community forums + easy BTRFS setup I can’t recommended EndevourOS enough.

Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.comto /0 Governance@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trial re-federation proposal for lemmygrad20·23 days agoCan a north Korean speak out about government abuse? What about a south Korean? We both know the answers to that.
A classic tankie tactic is to talk about their atrocities as if there was no other choice. Fuck that noise. But you cought my spelling error while I’m on mobile so I guess you win this round! Fucking classic tankie! This is a small example of bad faith arguments I don’t enjoy spending much time on tbh. Can you say a single thing bad about China or North Korea? Just 1 maybe 2 if you’re hardcore? I generally spend more time talking about the problems of the west but the fact that tankies see no evil just makes me look at you the same as a dogmatic MAGA and I don’t want that on my feed either.
The west and east is responsible for a more atrocities than I can remember off the top of my head, but guess what it’s generally authoritarians doing everything than can to increase their domination. I opose authoritarianism. I understand the world is not going to reflect my beliefs any time soon.
China has brought so many out of poverty while investing in renewable energy and truly opensouce Ai I see that as good and it gives me hope. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to say I don’t smell shit when there’s shit on my face.
Do you understand the definition of chauvinism? I spend more time calling out western authoritarianism than eastern, and I see most western anarchists do the same.
Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.comto /0 Governance@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trial re-federation proposal for lemmygrad49·23 days agoOne of the lines in the sand for me is when people are unironically pro North Korea. I don’t want that on my feed.
And to a lesser extent I don’t want to see weird tankie bootlicking of China either. And I’m not talking about legit good things China has done when compared to other superpowers, I’m talking weird posts that read like full propaganda state sponsored bs, and if you disagree with them in any way they will dig through your intire account history to try and find something they can use instead of actually having a discussion about the topic you originally disagreed with.
Authoritarians don’t want open discussion they will just link you half a shitty book explaining how there’s actually no such thing as authoritarianism.
Edit: I’d like to add that searching lemmygrad for Ukraine will show some really awful takes. I want freedom for Ukraine same as Palestine, Tebet, Hong kong, el Salvador, ect just because the main empire in the west is on the fascism side of authoritarianism doesn’t mean I will cozy up to other authoritarians.

That said it’s always blown my mind when lawn enjoyers freak out at things like dandy lions and little yellow flowering clovers, they improved the look. Why do people insist their yard has to look as close to astro terf as possible
Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which hobby is considered a cult or has cult-like tendencies?3·26 days agoDepends on the person. If it’s just someone that uses a PC for the browser and doesn’t want to learn anything something like popOS or mint would do. If they are ok with learning some Linux/Arch basics, BTRFS + EndeavorOS + KDE is hard to beat and would be my first recommendation
This is a bad take lol. You can be charged with manslaughter if it’s an accident and murder if you were trying to kill someone with your car.
Blatantly wrong takes like this just increase the cognitive dissonance between the anti car movement and everyone else.
Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•Why does Arch seem to have a cult like following?4·30 days agoI’ve started with ubuntu/mint and it was always a matter of time before something broke then i tried everything from then all the major distros and found that I loved being on a rolling release with openSUSE Tubleweed (gaming and most new software works better) and BTRFS on Fedora (BTRFS let’s you have boot time snapshots you can go back to if anything breaks).
After some research I found I can get both with arch so installed arch as a learning process via the outstanding wiki and have never looked back. Nowadays I just install endevourOS because it’s just an arch distro with easy BTRFS setup and easy gui installer was almost exactly like my custom arch cofigs and it uses official arch repos so you update just like arch (unlike manjaro). It’s been more stable than windows 10 for me.
Tldr: arch let’s you pick exactly what you want in a distro and is updated with the latest software something important if you game with nvidia GPU for example.

He’s also setting out $3billion for homeless facilities. Better than nothing, he’ll probably criminalize homelessness even more than it already is at the same time.
I doubt the $3 billion will do much to reverse the damage California has done with their prison machine, cost of living crisis, and under funded public services. Unless they address the underlying issues the problems are not going to go away.

I find it quite odd anyone would have them in the same category, even if you are not or have ever been a durg user.
Not surprised at all. One huge advantage ebikes have over acoustic bikes is not showing up to whareever you are going sweaty and tired, especially if you live in a warm climate or hilly area.
I also won’t be surprised if the automobile lobbies start seeing them as a threat in US/Canada
Edit: If you enjoy electronic projects I can highly recommend building your own ebike with grin technologies stuff they are a small Canadian company and are the main reason diy repairable ebikes are still a thing.
