I see where you’re coming from and I agree with a lot of it. IMO though no matter what you do, racists will always find a way to treat you worse because it’s nothing rational. If there are people from your country behaving like shit (and probably from mine too lol), that’s just an easy excuse to justify something that would otherwise be hard to justify.

I wasn’t even born yet but apparently still in the 70s/80s Germans had a huge hatred between Catholics and Protestants and they also treated German refugees from Eastern territories after WW2 the same way they treat refugees from Syria or Afghanistan today. Hell, Syrian refugees in Lebanon & Jordan have faced crazy racism and they are literally the same people if it wasn’t for imaginary borders drawn by the British a hundred years ago.

So at least personally I stopped trying to be a "good citizen“, because to a lot of people you can’t make it right anyway even if everyone sharing my ethnicity were THE perfect citizen. But yeah, it’s just a different angle than yours.
