  • The capitalist class is not a consolidated national political or economic force able to determine the direction of national policy. Also, when the West believed counter-revolutionary forces were going to succeed, they welcomed China into their trading system, welcomed its rise. But the slow realization that the PRC was not actually going to undo the worker’s gains, it instilled a mortal fear in the western bourgeois press, academia, and political elite. Would a state-capitalist country truly inflame such a reaction?
