Sometimes civil action will be taken up by a lawyer on a contingency based on the money they recover. Essentially they don’t get paid unless you do. The percentages that they are allowed to charge vary by state, and category of law. I think like 1/3 of your money recovered is typical? If you are suing a person or small business, you probably have a good shot, but truly powerful entities like corps and the govt will always win.
