It’s not the contract that was the misstep for the Bengals, it’s what they did around Burrow. We flopped on properly drafting and developing offensive line talent, Taylor and Callahan have overrated offensive scheme and bad playcalling, and relying purely on the draft for defense the past 2 seasons is finally biting us. The NFL is so QB dependent you can’t fault spending what we spent on the guy, but you can fault not doing the best you can to properly build around him.

I don’t think you’re in a position record-wise or draft capital-wise to make a play for the Caleb Williams type guys in the next draft and we’ve seen how trading/signing veteran QBs has paid off for ya’ll (everyone actually). The roster has lots of holes, but isn’t complete ass so you just seem destined for mediocre. Not bad enough to get good but not good enough to prevent being bad.

Also, how attractive with this position be to the best head coach candidates? Fired the last 2 mid contract, nothing stands out roster-wise to set you up for success (as opposed to say LAC or Washington, who if they moved on at least maybe have someone under center to build off of)
