“We don’t know what to look for” What utter dogshit. I work in environmental testing and it’s really not hard to blanket test soil samples for pretty much anything we currently recognize as “bad.”
They don’t want to spend the money on testing only to lose more money when they can’t sell their product.
My guess is they’re doing the whole “_____ czar” bit to keep from actually appointing people to positions. Remember by 2020 all the major positions were “acting head of _____”.

I find myself needing a connection to what feels like “the real zeitgeist” that I can only get through an app like instagram or TikTok. Reddit is cool sometimes (hexbear is cooler) but it doesn’t feel like a representation of real people I see in the world.
In this post-privacy world you can do your best to protect yourself but everything is taking your data. Not to say you shouldn’t try but I don’t think you should feel shame for enjoying the social connection.
Just watch yourself as you use the app it can go from cheerful connection to depressing alienation real quick (at least for me). I’m currently not using insta but I’m sure I’ll be back eventually once people start bugging me to see their memes.
