In fact, 2d printers have much higher precision requirements than 3d printers. 300dpi is hard to achieve, and that’s not even particularly impressive by modern standards. Aligning color heads is even harder. I have my doubts about a FOSS project ever being able to do that, unless it’s somehow crowdfunded to bring in existing experts.
